I hope we don't lose this thread! It took forever to get one started we can't lose it now, lol :)

Just for a little update: FH and I toured a reception site this past Saturday. It was awesome! It's smaller but just the right size for the number of guests we're planning to have (100). It's an older building in our historic downtown area.  It has white/cream brick interior and dark hardwood floors. They provide all tables, chairs, linens, etc. The best part is they have this awesome deck outside that is closed off to a close parking lot and sidewalk. Beautiful trees and potted plants (or at least they will be in the summer). And you can have your ceremony there!! It's perfect. Big enough for guests, minimal extra decor needed and there's no extra cost for the ceremony. All-in-all, we got a proposal which includes everything (setup, clean up, tables, chairs, food, bar, tax, etc) except cake and decorations for around $4000. Sounds decent to me. Especially because most other places I've looked, just to rent the hall is around $1500. This one is $500! FH is pretty set that this is IT. But I still want to check out at least 1 or 2 more places. We'll see how that goes.

Also, I'm going to check out more dresses this weekend. This'll be my second time. I'm hoping I'll have more to try on since my first stop was at a smaller store that didn't carry many 14-16 sizes. I'm going to David's Bridal this time so I'm hoping to have more choices.

That's it for now. Have a great weekend everyone!! And don't be afraid to let us know how things are going :)

Happy Friday everyone:)

Bride8232008- Have you thought about just incorporating the motorcycle them throughout?  Or are you looking for something more romantic?  How large is your wedding? Indoor or Outdoor? Do you have colors picked? Do you travel on your motorcycle?  You could do a traveling theme-to all the places you've been?!?  Just an idea...

DAS-Your venue sounds perfect!  We had the same situation, actually.  It will be our ceremony site (outdoors), and the reception site is in their ballroom.  Plus, caterer, linens, etc-all included for $4000 too!  I thought this was definitely reasonable, considering many of the other locations made you spend a minimum of $7000-8000.  Yikes...that's 3/4 of our total budget.  Have fun Bridal gown shopping-I had so much fun too.  I was almost sad after I found and ordered my dress cuz I couldn't go anymore!  Goofy, I know.

What happened to everyone else?  Hope all is well...

Hey all!

I'm getting married on 8/8/08 as well!!!

We have 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen. We are planning on having our first dance announced at 8:08:08 pm (about one hour into our recpetion). We have the infinity symbol built into our wedding logo design. And we're thinking of having the infinity symbol also engraved into our wedding bands.

What other ideas are out there to incorporate this into our theme?

Thanks,
Jess

After reading how much everyone is spending on a reception hall it makes me want to go look for a better deal. For everything-food, tax, open bar, the hall- we're paying about $20K. That, of course, doesn't cover photographer, videographer, DJ, cake, or anyhing like that. I wish it were cheaper to have a wedding in Chicago-I'm so afraid we won't be able to come up with that much money! It's so stressful! I wish we would have just gone to Vegas...that's what I originally wanted to do.

Also, I was wondering if any of you girls live with your soon-to-be in laws? Right now we're staying with FH's parents and they're driving me up the wall. We're only here until March because that's when we're moving out of state (we're moving from Chicago to NC) but I'm going crazy. FH got a new car today and my FMIL said, well he's going to have fun explaining that to his father. I thought to myself...excuse me? I am an adult, as is FH. We're both going to be 25 in a couple months. Why would we have to explain anything to them? We both work fulltime and FH will be graduating in March 2008 and will be a pharmacist. Our financial situation and what we do with our money is none of their business, right? They think that because we live with them and don't pay rent (their choice, I offered to pay-even if it were just for groceries-they refused) that they can tell us how to spend our money.

AHHHHH. Sorry just had to vent. :)

I keep reading this thread, but get tired before I get a chance to post (not that you're all boring, I'm just too busy to get on before 10:00pm!)

I'm another Michigan bride - 08/16/08!  My colors are navy and fuschia, and I have my ceremony and reception site booked, a photographer, and a baker.  I still need to order my dress (I'm waiting for the sample to come in) and the BM dresses.  My mom is helping me plan (she just retired and needed a project).

Okay...now the fatigue has hit.  Perhaps I'll post more later.

Sounds like everyone has been busy!  I'm on the search for a photographer myself.  I thought I had found one but before we could get around to booking she found out her sister was getting married the same day!  To say I was sad would be an udnerstatement!  I've been going crazy contacting photogs in my area trying to find the perfect one.  I want this to be done and booked by the end of November.  Since I work in retail (HR Manager for a large chain) I will have no weekends off until January - so that's when I will start dress shopping.  Whew...

Speaking of working weekends - I'm off to bed!  Happy planning ladies!

Hi All! Wow, it's been awhile since I posted here, I've been SO BUSY!!!! So we had our engagement pics taken last weekend - it was so fun, and it was such a pretty day! We had them taken in a park near me, and the leaves looked so pretty! I want to see them now!!!!! She says it will be a few weeks, but she's going to post them on her site too! Woo-hoo!!

So Hula - I had read your post about the centerpeices, and I wanted to let you know that you might want to be careful about renting the bowls for the centerpieces, just because a lot of people think they can take the centerpieces home. I'd be a little worried some one might inadvertently take it, and then you'd have to pay the rental place for losing their stuff. Just something to think about. I think it's a little weird myself, I've been the one to "win" the centerpiece at many a wedding, and I never know quite what to do with them.

Anyway - not a whole lot new in the planning, although I'm getting pretty psyched about the next phase that will kick in around January/December - getting the BM dresses, gift registering, sending out the STD's, going to see about the tux, etc.

We actually hired a really great hippie band for the wedding instead of a DJ, which is one of our "big" expenses just because we're really picky about music. They were kind of expensive ($1250) but we think it's worth it.

Oh, and DAS - good luck at David's! From what I understand they carry all their dresses in all sizes they come in, so hopefully you'll find something you like. If not, at least maybe you can get an idea of the style & look you like, and then if there's another dress you love it might be comparable? Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Yea! Another 08-08-08 bride! I love the infinity theme too. We are going to have the symbol on our invites, cake, isle runner, table cards, gobo, programs and probably anything that is paper or could be decorated with that symbol! I love the idea of the first dance at 8:08 pm. We were going to go for 4 bridemaidsa nd 4 groomsman, but FH wanted to add another couple. I racked my brain on giving in and I finally said okay. These details we bog ourselves down with all day long many times go unnoticed. But I am happy to hear that you are doing the same theme. Keep me updated on any other ideas you get along the way!

Update on the plans: FH broke it to me last week that we wont be able to go on our dream honeymoon. He was planning the whole thing and was going to make it a surprise by telling me at the reception. But, we cant afford his dream plan. So instead, he gave in and told me that we are going to stay at his parents condo in Riveria Maya, Mexico. Which- don't get me wrong- is going to be amazing, beautiful and a perfect honeymoon. But, I am sad that I won't be surprised. Pathetic, I know. Well, these next two weeks my goal is to find a baker, call and finalize the price and details for the bm's dresses (we are ordering the first week in December), and convince FH to FINALLY book a DJ for heavens sake.

Sounds like everyone is pretty busy lately- so I'll stop rambling! Happy Planning!

Welcome to all the new brides posting here:)

080808-I hear ya.  Our dream honeymoon is going to have to go on the back burner too.  We would love to go to St. Lucia...but the wedding is killing that budget! But that's FH job too-figure out the honeymoon.  We'll see... Riveria Maya is GREAT though!  Gorgeous & relaxing!

Today I went with one of my bridesmaids to my first bridal show!  It was actually so much fun!  Even though I have most of the big things determined and booked, it was still fun to look around-not to mention to taste all the cakes from different bakery venders!!!  Do you all have bridal shows in your areas too?  Have you gone?

Good night!

Funny story about bridal shows. I love them- swear by them- and encourage everyone to go to as many as they can! FH and I went to a bridal show before we were even engaged and WON a huge prize package. It was at a banquet center near our area. We won: a free engagement party at the banquet center- catered, decorated, everything besides the bar tab covered! even a DJ. Plus, I got a free haircut and color at a local salon, 100 free napkins personalized by a local printing company, free engagement photo session and 10 free prints (we signed with that photographer after we saw his great work from our FREE session!), a free scrapbooking kit to get our wedding scrapbook started, and we won that "fake honeymoon" if only you buy all those pots and pans and attend the cooking show. The last gift we chose NOT to receive! What a scam on that thing! Anyways- we got a boatload of free things, it was super fun, and FREE to attend!

I've been to one bridal show and it was good to get ideas for decorations and such, but after entering all those draws I keep getting calls from people trying to sell me things. Also, I think some of the companies sold my e-mail address because I started getting a whole lot of spam after the show.  It's so annoying!

OH, boy I'm in trouble!!!  Thanks for the warning, Karma!  But I think I wrote down my address and phone number like 100 times!

The show was fun though...all those cakes!

I think bridal shows are fun too. I've only been to one so far, in October. There were so many vendors, decoration ideas, cake, etc. OMG, my sister made me eat sooo much cake, lol. I entered into a bunch of things to but haven't received too many phone calls. I keep getting them from those "fake" honeymoon people too. I just don't answer so they leave a message. I did win an actual prize though, $200 gift card to Younkers! I usually don't shop there but I thought I could use it to get shoes for the wedding or maybe get my makeup done since I wasn't planning on paying for it before.

So my first one was such a good experience that I'm going to the biggest one in my area the first week of January...and FH is coming with me! By then hopefully I'll have a better idea of what we're looking for and can get some plans made!

BTW - This new layout and crap is driving me nuts :( What the heck are they doing? Loading the pages takes forever!
