DH and I had talked about it for nearly 2 years, In the summer of 2005 we went shopping for rings.  We picked a band style and he got the band and the stone from a family friend who's a jeweler.  He had the ring for 1 month.  The first time we saw each other he asked me.  Even though I knew he had the ring I was still surprised when he asked me.  I was told by a friend who got married a little before we got engaged, that her DH purposed nearly a year after getting the ring.  He wanted to make sure it was a surprise. haha.

I did but I didnt...if that makes sense.

I suspected it when a he started ALOT of random conversations with "when I get married I want..." or "how do you see your wedding day?" or the famous "what type of jewelry do you like?". I knew something was up but I had no idea as of how soon it would happen. Those type of discussions came up at the end of May/beginning of June. He proposed June 20th (our dating anniversary) at a restaurant. I've checked out the receipt and saw he bought the ring June 6th. I told him that I had no idea, but it would kinda damper it for him if I told him that I really did figure it out...and I was just waiting :)

I really thought he was going to propose next May when he graduated grad school, but it was a surprise to get the proposal almost a full year before I expected it.

We've talked about it for years, but I had some financial situations I had to get rectified before we did.  Those situations finally got settled this summer.

At that point he said something like "finally! we can get married!" to which I responded... Yep!  Pick a date!  LOL  Not your usual, down on one knee thing... but let me tell ya, I've never been more thrilled!

Several weeks ago, we got a sales flier from a local jewlery store, and he brought it to me and said "do you like this one?"  We went and got it and I've never been prouder to wear something!

Though I've known for some time that we would be married... having the ring and making the plans and all... I'm just downright giddy!  LOL

When we were first dating, FH told me he would propose to me at a specific time next year. That date came and went, but a few days later, there he was in our kitchen with the perfect engagement ring. We've been engaged for a year and a half and I can't wait to marry him in June :)

I TOTALLY knew about it, lol. We had been going out for 5 years, and I wasn't concerned about a wedding or a proposal, I just wanted to know where we were going - so I told him to figure it out and tell me, and not bother with a big proposal etc (really not my thing - I just wanted to be married to him!!). So we ended up just talking about it one night, and decided to get engaged... told family etc. Altho, saying that, it was quite nice when my engagement ring arrived (which I picked, he he, he just told me to choose whatever I wanted) he dropped down to one knee :P and then did the Pretty Woman box-snap-close thing as a joke. I know it sounds REALLY lame, and as a feminist I never thought I'd say this, but now I feel like we're officially engaged (and I'm now more excited about it) b/c of the ring. Is that bad? Does anyone else feel like that?

Moral of the story is that not everyone gets surprised - each to their own! All I know is that I and FH are both very happy and excited about our wedding :)

Though we're already planning our wedding, my FH hasn't done the official proposal. So I know it's coming, just not sure when...

Can't wait to be Mrs. Barnette!

We had talked about it and knew we wanted to get engaged after he graduated college. We had even went ring browsing so I could tell him what I liked, but I didn't know he had the ring until we went home one weekend so he could ask my Dad. I figured he would buy the ring after he asked but the second night we were home I was making fun of him because he kept chickening out and told him "it's not like you have the ring anyways" so he left the room and came back with the box. I was shocked! So then I knew it was coming I just didn't know when and he proposed on my birthday after I blew out my candles (it was just the two of us) I was surprised he did it then because he told me he wasn't going to because he knew I would suspect it. lol

My now fiance always liked to surprise me even though i told him i hated surprises. Well a number of my college friends had recently got engaged so I had been on the "let's get married" bandwagon.... and we both knew we wanted to get married... but "one day" he'd say.

Well he wanted to get engaged too, he just made sure I didn't know ... he basically drove me nuts on purpose and used to ignore me every time i even mentioned jewelry or weddings or was near any store that sold jewelry because - like a little bird, anything sparkly catches my eye (he told that to the jeweler who made my ring lol).

So finally, a few weeks before getting engaged, I gave up on the wedding subject. We were in the process of buying a townhouse together and I figured he wouldn't be able to afford a ring anyways. I even told him I didnt care about getting engaged anymore one day as we walked past a jewelry store - just as long as we were together it was fine with me.

Well, he later told me that he panicked like crazy b/c he had my ring already and was afraid he would get turned down. He ended up totally taking me by surprise. He scheduled to see a walkthrough of our almost completed house, but I was running late and he called me so many times I told him to stop or I wouldn't come at all. Well, glad I did... it was dark by the time I got there so we had flashlights, and after the bldg mgr left, he proposed in what is now our living room. I of course said No Way! like 5 times b/f I realized I didnt say yes... poor guy was on his knees for like 5 minutes! LOL...

I knew that it was going to happen but I never knew when. We had been talking about it for a long time. I was sure that a proposal was going to happen when we went on a trip with my family to South Dakota. It turns out that was when he wanted to do it but he didn't have a ring yet. He ended up proposing 8 months later when he came to pick me up for Spring Break. We were getting ready to leave my dorm and he said wait there is one more thing we have to do. I kind of rolled my eyes because I really wanted to leave(it was a really stressful semester and I really needed to get away from campus and I needed to get laundry done before we went to Minnesota) and then he started saying all of these really sweet things and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes! He was hoping to propose while we were in Minnesota, we were going there to look at the school he is transferring to and where we will be living for the first few years of our marriage but he couldn't wait any longer and he didn't want to risk me finding the ring!

This story is probably really choppy and I apologize. I should really be sleeping right now.

I get to marry my middle school sweetheart!

My engagement came as a total surprise! We had been together 2 years and we had talked about marriage but I never expected he'd propose...we went to England in May 2004 and our 2 yr anniversary was during the time we were there...My cousin got married in England on May 21st and May 22nd..FH and I got on a train and headed to London.  After being lost in London for quite awhile we finally got on a tour bus....we decided to get off at the London Tower Bridge and get some lunch at the little park next to the bridge right on the Thames River..it was cold out that day and so I put on FH's extra sweatshirt...when I was pulling my head thru the shirt..I was surprised to see FH down on one knee proposing....He picked out the ring by himself and all........I didnt know what to say and didnt talk for like 2 minutes, but finally said yes....The crazy thing is...I carried the ring around all day in our video camera bag...

I MARRY MY BEST FRIEND AND BECOME  MRS. ANDERSON

Didn't know for sure, but had been HOPING for a year!  I really started to get "the itch" around the time that we had been dating for 3 years.  We lived together, and I just kept mentioning that I was ready, it was the next step since we both knew we belonged together, etc.  I was starting to lose hope that he wanted to be married, I finally stopped suggesting (he gave no hints since he once told me this is the most special surprise a man can give).  And on our 4 year anniversary weekend, he finally popped the question with a "top 10" list about special things in our relationship.  So cute...I had no idea he actually had a ring-he did a great job!  I love it!  So...did I know-no.  Was I hoping-yes!

I totally had my mind set on August 2nd and I told all my girl friends because I knew it was going to happen that day. but to my surprise he did it on August 5th he knew me well enough to know that I would think  if he didn't do it on the 2nd he wouldn't do it at all. Though I was hopeful about it on the 5th because he took me to the spot where I had imagined it would happen! and though it was a complete surprise I did see the ring seconds before he officially popped the question so I just spend a lot of my time reminding myself not to scream "YES" too soon!

It wasn't on the awaited date but It was perfect and I LOVED every second of it!

I knew it was coming, but it was a surprise when he actually asked.  We'd gone to a friend's wedding in June & started talking about "our wedding" in a lighthearted way.  After that we both got swamped in building & preparing for Burning Man (craziest camping trip ever).  Then at Burning Man while we were enjoing the fruits of our labors he asked!  He didn't have the ring, and he says the moment just seemed so right he asked me when it popped into his head.  A few weeks later he took me shopping & I got to pick out my ring.  I couldn't think of a more perfect way it could have happened!  Laughing
Everything must be purple (even the wedding gown)!
