My mother passed away nearly three years ago due to breast cancer. I am asking my older sister to read a poem durring my weddind ceremony relating, to, or about our passed mother as well as a poem I wrote for my mom for christmas when I was very young.
I am having a really hard time finding a poem that is not too depressing but rather talking about hope and the joy that she shared with us - If anyone has any ideas or anything please let me know!!!!
Here's something that my sister-in-law wrote when my mother past away 2 yrs ago after losing her battle with lung cancer. Some of the things are very specific to my mom but maybe you can take a few ideas from it?
TRIBUTE TO MOM
Our mom was special in a very different way
She worked hard every single day.
Even when sick, she really tried hard
Yep, our mom was an Ace of a card!
She rarely said I Love You and all that stuff
You knew she did and that was enough.
When she did say it, you knew it was true
Mom was not one to try to impress you.
When it came to dancing or playing bingo
Gas up the car, she was ready to go.
As a mother-in-law, she was good as gold
She would look you in the eye and speak to you bold.
To her grandchildren she was known as Grandy
At making pumpkin pies and chili rellenos, she was Jim Dandy!
Mom had a good friend, a very special man
He took care of her every way that one can.
She leaves behind five children, who love her dearly
Looking on them now, she should see that clearly.
Mom, you will be missed by more than a few
We will remember the good times and not be blue.
A mother can never be replaced
But it is comforting not to see pain in her face.
There is something we would like to say
As we gather in her memory today
“Your work is over; your life on earth is through.
