how did you let your guests know where/when/how much/how to book?

I sent out save the dates in May for an April 08 wedding. I'm not sure when I"ll be sending out the 'official invites' - probably by December.

I sent save the dates in Feb 07 for Feb 08 wedding.  My mom is a graphic designer, and she designed some postcards for us - I punched a hole in the postcards and attached a luggage tag.  Inside the luggage tag was a small card that said "Save the Date 2/23/08"  The postcard itself read:

Save the Date

For the Island Wedding of

Bride's Name & Groom's Name

February 23, 2008

Breezes Resort - Runaway Bay, Jamaica

Travel arrangements can be made through (travel agency info).  Early booking discounts are available for travel reserved by March 1, 2007.  Price and availability will vary according to travel dates, length of stay and departure city.  Passports are required for travel.  Please call as soon as possible to guarantee your space.

A hometown reception will be held.  Details to follow.

I'm debating about sending formal invitations to the ceremony in Jamaica - we know who is coming so there is no need for RSVP's.  Plus our guests already have the details.  I will do a formal invite to our hometown reception.  I'm thinking about sending a confirmation letter as it gets closer - something like "We're thrilled you'll be joining us for our special day.  Please join us for dinner at ... (with details about a group dinner to be held the day everyone arrives at the resort)"  Does anyone have thoughts on this?

I'm sorry, where is "dreams, pv"?  Puerto Vallarta?  To be honest, I think those who hope that many of their invitees won't come are setting themselves up for an awkward situation.  I mean, if you really hope people won't come, don't send STD cards.  Then the only people who'll be able to attend will be those close enough to you to have heard the details informally before the invitations go in the mail.  I apologize if I sound like a wet blanket - I do wish you a lovely event and a lifetime of happiness.  I am just not that much of a fan of STD cards, I've seen from these message boards that they often lead to difficulties.

what do you think about sending out invites for a feb 08 now (w/in the next month?) if we did a save the date, then we'd have to send invites as a formality, even to people that we know wouldn't come...then, in dec. or so, we could send out "reminder" cards, saying "can't wait to see you in pv"...

 thoughts?

I think sending the std is a good idea for a destination wedding. We are getting married in Hawaii and my parents are making us send save the dates next month so people can plan their travel.

Hi there-

I sent out Save the Dates in March for out (Feb 08 wedding).   I used the boarding pass template, and included the date, place, TA information, passports required, etc.

For those pple coming to the wedding, their 1st deposit is due the end of July.  So we just sent out invites w/ relpy cards this week.  We have people saying they will come, but when it comes down to it, not really sure, so this way they can reply with their response and we know for sure.  Also, we used it as a reminder to get in touch with the TA before 7/31 (when the 1st deposit is due).  We also included a Bob Marley CD with all the invitations, to get everybody in the mood (we are getting married in Jamaica).  So  we didn't feel bad sending invitations to pple we know aren't coming because we wanted them to have a CD and send in their response so we are 100% positive.

The remainder of the money is due the end of November.  So we are planning to send a card or newsletter closer to that date (only to the guests that are coming) with a reminder and "can't wait to have you share in our special day" type thing.

This way we send the important information along with the deposit timelines and we don't have to send seperate reminders and flood our friends and family with the mail.

We have started to get responses back, and they are all what we expected, but it will be good to know for sure who is and is not coming.  Hope this helps.

Hi Lauren

We have tons of brides that we do their DW.  We honestly do the "Book the date" letters for them.  They are on stationary that fits the wedding.. beach  scene..  Whats great!  is that it comes from us and it tells them to book the date.. not save it.. if you send out a save the date letter.. that is exactly what you will get.. alot of people holding the date open and not making a commitment.  This way your guests are booked and you know what you are doing.  Let me know if you are working with anyone.. if not I can certainly help and we dont charge anything...  Tam

Cool Have a great day! and Congrats to you

Am heading down to our destination to pick out a resort in two weeks. Upon my return, I will send out save the dates. Our wedding is next July. This gives guests enough time to start making/saving/reserving travel arrangements. I will send the invitations out in January.
Kiss Going to the chapel and we're gonna get married!

object">I am having a wedding abroad and would love to use the boarding pass idea for our invitations.  Do you have a copy of the boarding pass template that you used that you would be happy to share?

Hello Ladies.  I am getting married in Jamaica in April 08.  I ordered my save the date cards and should receive them tomorrow - and will send them out this week.  They are postcards and on one side is a design with our announcement with the date, location, our wedding website and a "formal invitation to follow" note.  My friend is a graphic designer and did a wonderful job and I only had to upload his work at www.printsmadeeasy.com to order the postcards.  Prints made easy also have pre-done designs if you don't have one to upload yourself.  You can also upload your picture.  I found this site on the web ... NOTE: I did not get the cards yet and won't guarantee the quality right now since I have not seen the results yet but I really liked the postcard idea and thought I should share.  I am thinking about sending the formal invitations around November.

There are many girls on The Knot that have templates for all sorts of things including the boarding pass invite like super Knottie LoriDecter:   http://talk.theknot.com/boards/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=25787127&MsdVisit=1

She's got a link to a boarding pass template in her bio.  Good luck!

hi! i getting married at dreams pv in 05/08. I sent my save the dates in May. We made our own with the help of kinkos for like $100.00 very easy. we thought it necessary just so people could book now if the wanted and we actually got about 15 to do so already. I used destination weddings.com to do booking that way everyone can just call the travel agent instead of me with the questions.

I would send out the save-the-dates as soon as possible. Or if not, your wedding invitations. It's only 6 months away and it is in a different country, so you want to let your guests know immediately of the location, etc so they can plan/save money/book accordingly.

I will be putting my website address and booking information on a printed out sheet in our wedding invitations.
