We are just now deciding on a theme for our wedding. I am leaning towards an asian/zen theme... with orchids on the table, paper lanterns, bamboo, etc. The invitations would also echo this theme, and I'm even thinking of a sushi bar!
Let me know if you have any ideas... neither myself or my finance are Asian, but we both love the culture. Does anyone think it will look weird since neither of us are Asian?
I think that is an awesome idea. I am very into feng shui, my whole house is decorated that was ( and no I am not asian and neither is my husband) you could also use hand fans and print programs on those, you could also use oriental rock gardens to decorate tables, I think the sushi bar is an awesome idea, and you could even get one type of Asian beer and serve that as a "specialty" drink or use saki. I don't know how formal your wedding will be but, just to throw it out there... you could have the tables for the reception low to the ground and have the guests sit on large pillows on the ground, and encourage or even offer flip flops for them to wear. Ohhh, and every resturant that I have ever been to wish asian influence also always gives warm damp towels for you to clean you hands with before the meal!! I wish I could have done my wedding this way!! I could have so much fun thinking of ideas for you!! I think your wedding will be awesome, let me know if you need any other ideas!!
I was at hobby lobby and they had paper parasols with chinese letters on them. I also, went to a boarding school and one of my roommates was from Japan and she got my other roommate the most amazing japanese silk dress. (It transfered to american money like $50) I still talk to her and she is back in japan. You could have your bridesmaid wear those kinds of dresses.
no. i think it would be cool. have you considered persaonalized fourtne cookies as favors? you could stick them in tiny take out replica boxs and tie ribbon around them. some companies with actually personalize the fortunes in the cookies. they can read something about the marriage on the front and have your wedding date on the other side (where you usually see the lucky numbers)
Your cocktail hour hors d'oeuvres can feature items like dumplings, spring, summer, or mini egg rolls, scallion pancakes, crab rangoons, shrimp toast and other items from a chinese restaurant's menu. I also saw these beautiful bouquets that were made of pink peonies and thin, dark branches--they looked like mini cherry blossom trees.
