bride in blue?

Jul 30, 2008 12:46 AM

What do you think about a wedding dress in color? i am very fair with light auburn hair and blue eyes and am planning a pale silvery blue for my wedding dress. I ordered it months ago but am having second thoughts about it not being white. I was also thinking of bridesmaids in chocolate brown or navy and my fiance is wearing a charcoal grey suit. I was having him a tie made to match my dress. What do you think? Message was edited by: justinet

I think it sounds nice with the brown BM dresses. I also have auburn hair and blue eyes and I bet it would look stunning on someone like that. Can we see a picture of the dress??

justinet - I'm all in favor of colored wedding dresses! Who says colors can't be elegant? I originally wanted to get married in a pink prom dress but instead added a pink skirting. Here's how mine turned out:

Do it!!!  I'm wearing a red dress. Check out my album. Personally I think white's pretty boring (everyone does it) so be a trend setter. Laughing

I aboslutly love the Charcoal Gray! that's what my guys are wearing! but with pale pink/ivory.

Your dress sound beautiful!  Not sure about the brown dresses and the gray tuxedo's.  If you can put the BM in navy dresses, then put the guys in navy tuxedo's with gray ties.  Or have the guys wear brown tuxedo's with blue ties and the BM with the brown dresses with blue flowers.   This way the 2 of you are the main colors and the wedding party the accent colors.

I actually know precisely how you feel. I originally wanted to get married in blue, one I think blue looks better with my coloring then white and blue is the traditional color for irish brides. So I found a beautiful "ice" blue dress with white accents and when I added in the mantilla I felt very bridal.

Then (and this is one of the problems with planning early) I freaked out about not having a more traditional gown. The blue dress I bought did not have any kind of train, and I suddenly really wanted to have at least a sweep train. So I "ran out"...back to ebay, and bought a beautiful diamond white traditional wedding gown.

I do not have any idea which one I'm going to wear down the aisle on the day of the wedding. I can actually picture myself now in my suite with both dresses, trying one on after the other and asking my bridesmaids and mother which one to go with. (hopefully I will have made the choice long before then)

(luckily i purchased both dresses for under $60 including shipping) I think wearing blue is a beautiful choice, and, at least for me, felt very bridal. But I understand the freak out too.

When is my wedding

In the picture it doesn't look too blue.  It kind of just has an iced over blue look to it.  I don't think that's a bad choice at all.  I was thinking you were going to come post a pic that looked like the Tiffany box or something.  It does suit your skin tone and hair very nicely.

WEdding dresses are all colors now.  Many of them use dramatic colored trains or skirting.  The champagne colored dress is one I wish I could pull off.  I think it's so elegant.

You're the bride.  It's not like anyone won't be able to find you at the wedding because you're not in a white dress.  lol

Mrs. Pinky, I love the back of your dress.  Totally gorgeous!!!

Choco, I just have to say that your red dress is so, so very elegant and beautiful!  I love the color and I especially love the silohuette.  I'm totally in love with mermaid/trumpet gowns.

Justine, the ice blue should look fine...I wanted to wear a pink dress for my wedding, but decided against it only because my fiance at the time (now hubby) is really pale with natural red hair, so you can imagine that all that pink on me would have totally washed him out.  Ultimately, go with the dress that goes with your skin tone.

Picking a wedding gown not in white or ivory is a pretty bold thing to do just because of tradition. This means that when you chose the blue gown that you really did love it and its coloring. No one chooses to put color on their wedding gown just on a whim. I think you will love it (even though I dont know you) but I understand the pressure to be traditional. I loved some pink gowns but obviously ended up going with a white gown because I found the dress I love and like most wedding gowns it comes in either white or ivory. Do you have a picture of your dress?

I would like to add that the bridesmaids in blue would look amazing as well as the men in charcoal grey suits. I work at a David's Bridal and there is a layout in one of the magazines of bridesmaids in different dresses that are all a combination of two different blues and it is so fresh looking!

the shade of blue is not bad.  i think your coloring and hair would look stunning in ivory though.  but then i am a traditionalist

thanks to all that chimed in with your comments. ddboo and mrs. pinky, you look stunning in your gowns with splashes of color. I am still nervous about the choice but am reassured that others are doing it too. I think I may go more traditional with the accessories (veil, flowers, etc.) to have a good mix.
