What made you choose your 1st dance song?
I've been wondering about other couple's 1st dance song and what influenced you to pick THAT song? I mean for us, when we 1st starting dating, DH and I were watching Napeleon Dynamite and there's a part at the end when they're at the dance and in the back ground they are playing Cindy Lauper's Time After Time. And we've always made of it and think it's so cheesy. DH found Quietdrive's version of it and low and behold THAT'S what we used for our 1st dance song!!! It has such meaning and history behind it and everytime we hear it we turn into such cheesies!!! It's even each other's ringers for each other on our cell phones! :p
So what was/is your 1st dance song? and why'd you end up picking it?

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
We sort of had two "first dance songs." One that we did a choreographed BAD Foxtrot to,and then another one where all guests joined in with us. We chose Harry Connick Jrs "A Wink and a Smile" because the song is just so adorable, and it has the perfect melody for a semi-fast foxtrot.
We chose Lionel Richie's TRULY for our First Dance with Guest song because when DH and I met online in an 80s Chat Room; one of our first discussions was about Lionel Richie and mocking his song "Dancing on the Ceiling" ... it was a silly conversation but really funny. Then we started talking about how his love ballods are great and Truly was both of our favorites. So it was our cheesy choice ..and also I think its just a great timeless song.

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
I had ALWAYS dreamed of dancing with my Husband to "I Cross My Heart" by George Strait. I never thought I'd meet someone to fit those words perfectly.
I was, however, torn between that song and "My Best Friend" by Tim McGraw.
Our last dance will be "Making Memories of Us" by Keith Urban.

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
I've got two stories:
First, our first dance song is "You're All I Need To Get By" and we chose it for a variety of reasons. First of all, it's a duet. I loved the symbolism of our song being a duet. Second, it's a motown hit, and our wedding was in Detroit. Third, it's a song that connects to history. Being a motown song, our parents know the song well. I liked the idea that it connected us to generations that came before us. Fourth, there's a lyric that goes "We got the right foundation, and with love and determination, you're all I need to get by." I love the fact that the song acknowledges that love alone is not enough -- the the song isn't just about love; it's about marriage.
Another song that wasn't a first dance song but was prominently featured in our wedding -- we used it as background music on our website and the wedding party was introduced to it -- is a song by an artist named Jamie Collum, and it's called "Get Your Way." It's a song about the games people play with eachother when they're dating. The chorus goes "What game shall we play today? How about the one where you don't get your way? But even if you do, it's okay." We have a long-running joke about how I always get my way, but it's okay with him.
That song, Get Your Way, opens with the lyrics "Dinner at Eight, That sounds fine." My ring is inscribed with "Dinner at 8" and his reads "That sounds fine." It's a little reminder to make time for one another.

MsDenuninani - that is a really sweet story. I like the background history on both of your songs. I love how the "That sounds fine" corresponds to the joke of you'll get your way too. Great pick of songs!

Those are all great stories and choices! My wedding is still over a year away, but right now I am thinking about using "Could Not Ask For More" by Edwin Mccain. But I will probably change my mind before then.

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
We keep going between 2 songs, both sung my Etta James
How Do You Speak to an Angel: When we first met, I didn't speak a word of Spanish, and he was still learning English. It's meaningful, but at the same time, it's a 3 minute song. I love him, but we can only turn in circles for so long...
Never My Love: Before we were engaged, we would ask each other if we've changed or whatever. Well, one of the lyrics is, "You say you fear I'll change my mind; I won't require you. Never my love." The whole song is great. I love it!

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
Our first dance song was Always and Forever by Heatwave. It was the first song we ever danced to so it just seemed fitting to be our first dance song. The first dance song after dinner was When I said I do by Clint Black. The lyrics say everything about our marriage.

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
When we had been dating for a couple of months, we were in the car and "Lost In This Moment" by Big & Rich came on, and FH reached over and grabbed my hand... it was a really cheesy moment but it was sweet. A few weeks later he made that his ringtone for when I call him, and asked me if it bothered me that my ringtone was a song about a wedding. I told him it didn't bother me at all! So then it became our song. When he proposed, he had it playing in the background :)
So even though it's a pretty common first dance song, it's really special to us and I'm really excited to have it as ours!

Re: What made you choose your 1st dance song?
Our first dance song is going to be "Dance With Me Daily" by the Barra MacNeils. It's been one of my favorites for a long time and FH really likes it, too. And the words are so appropriate: "Dance with me daily, come take my hand. Stay with me always, Cause you're the one that I adore." The twist, though, is that a friend of mine and I are recording the song. FH won't know until they start to play it. He's gonna cry. ![]()
