The Project Runway winner shows us his wedding dress picks for four engaged celebrities
For everyone here at Brides.com, one of the best parts about learning of an upcoming celebrity wedding is wondering what the bride’s dress will look like. That’s why we asked Project Runway season four winner Christian Siriano to sketch original wedding gowns he would design for four engaged celebrities: Uma Thurman, Rachel Bilson, Amy Adams and Zooey Deschanel.
Siriano is no stranger to the world of wedding dresses: the designer, whose Fall 2009 collection will be available at Saks Fifth Avenue this August, got his start working as a freelance bridal designer in New York City. Read on to see the sketches and to learn how Siriano designed wedding dresses that are well-suited for each celebrity’s personality. —Kathryn Papanek
Uma Thurman
“I imagine this gown to be total elegance with a classically shaped top and a satin faced organza extreme bottom. Uma is all about her day, and it’s drama, drama, drama! The bodice is pleated with carefully draped chiffon. A draped chiffon sleeve will fall low across the arm. The color is classic white with accents of silver and grey.”
“She is so sweet and chic. The shape is body conscious to show that she has a great figure. Of course, the signature drama is a must, with a flowing tiered bottom, a train about three feet long and a ruffled pleated neckline that just crosses her bust.”
“It also was important to keep this dress modern, with the one shoulder strap and the light touch of beading cascading throughout the body and hem.”
"A true red carpet diva. This gown is satin-faced organza and a overlay of chiffon in a icy grey tone. The bodice is fitted from the back to mid-front with a signature ruffled bust line. It drapes around her body with pleating and has a beautiful low-cut back to show off her amazing skin tone. The beading is tiny but stands out as just a highlight to the beautiful shape of the dress."
“I love the idea of using colors and tones to highlight something for Zooey. Her hair has such a luscious dark tone. I wanted the dress to highlight that with a cream color instead of classic white or even bone."
"The gown is still modern and young, but I did not want it to be too flirty. I think it should be dramatic. The bodice is a simple sweetheart with draped chiffon in cream over a light silver base. Mixing the colors creates depth. I also loved the idea of taking the bottom high on the hip and letting the fall of the fabric come around to the front to create this beautiful, dramatic bottom.”
