Spring is here, love is in the air, and your calendar is filled with the upcoming weddings of friends and family who have chosen to get married this season. As brides mix it up with their choice of ceremony styles (beach or garden, formal or casual) you’ll need to diversify your ensemble so that you look appropriate—and stunning!
We asked Claudia Plant, Editorial Director for luxury e-commerce site
Net-a-porter, to tell us how to dress for different weddings this season. "Make sure you opt for lightweight fabrics to keep cool," she advises. "Mix pieces with bright colors or a print for that chic summer feel." Read on for more of Claudia's tips, and visit

Beach/destination wedding
"If you are attending an exotic location wedding, keep things simple, fluid and lightweight. It's the perfect opportunity to show off a fabulous maxi dress either in a statement print or standout color—definitely no black. If the wedding is literally taking place on the beach, wear flats and have a pair of metallic high heels at the ready for the party afterwards."

Garden wedding
"For a garden wedding, my top tip is to wear wedges. They are comfortable and will ensure you don't sink into the grass and ruin your heels. My picks here from Miu Miu are functional and chic. Try a knee-length dress and add a cute blazer, like this one from Chloé or one from Stella McCartney, to keep out the evening summer chill and to add a sleek edge to your daytime look. A clutch bag will complete your outfit and adds a touch of elegance."
Batik print poplin dress, Donna Kara, $2495; wool gabardine blazer, Chloé, $1560; Satin wedge T-bar sandal, $665, and snake print wedges, $695, both Miu Miu; Zulu woven clutch, Jimmy Choo, $625, available at

Day wedding
"For a spring/summer daytime wedding, I would go for something more directional like this fuchsia pink silk dress from cool British designer Richard Nicoll. The short sleeves and eye-popping color combination are perfect for a sun-drenched day. Pair with nude shoes—it’s the newest color mix and gives the illusion of endless legs."

Evening wedding
"For an evening wedding, you can go all out! Invest in a statement dress like this one from Vera Wang. Keep your accessories simple and your heels super high."

Formal / conservative wedding
"Add a little 'night' to your day with an embellished skirt and cardigan like this outfit from Oscar de la Renta. This chic combination will easily take your look into evening. Add a pair of platform sandals from Jimmy Choo for a modern edge."
Cardigan, Oscar de la Renta, £1,035; skirt, Oscar de la Renta, £2,230, available at

Casual wedding
"For a casual wedding, opt for separates and go for lightweight fabric choices to ensure you stay comfortable all day long. If you decide to wear pants, be sure to pick a fluid fabric such as silk or jersey. These muted grey pants from Vivienne Westwood Anglomania can be dressed up with a soft blazer, a bold necklace from Stella McCartney and a simple but chic blouse from Vanessa Bruno. Throw on a pair of metallic sandals to complete your look."
