- Question:
Is it acceptable for me to plan my wedding while I’m at work?
- Answer:
It is, to an extent, but you'll land on your boss's bad side if you're constantly caught chatting with vendors, so wise time management is a must. "Get to the office an hour early to get ahead on work or accomplish some planning tasks, like browsing wedding-gown sites," suggests Jan Yager, Ph.D., workplace and relationship expert and author of Who's That Sitting at My Desk? She also advocates being up front with your boss. Way in advance, reserve vacation time for the wedding and honeymoon, and personal time for planning-related appointments, so he knows you're organized and not expecting special treatment. Also, if you have "good credit" with your boss from having frequently exceeded expectations, you'll have more leeway than others when it comes to occasionally getting in late, leaving early or taking a long lunch.
