Catering on wheels

Wedding celebrations, rehearsal dinners, and engagement parties all need to feed a crowd. The latest fun trend for catering is roadside food trucks that serve gourmet quality meals served by passionate cooks. Striking just the right note for informal wedding receptions (or just the right quirky couple), these customized vans, trucks, and school buses are designed to appeal to the eye as well as the stomach and don't require an on-site kitchen. Some trucks elevate the concept of street food, while others bring the authenticity of the "street" to ravenous foodies. Here are some of my favorites: a retro-fitted shiny red fire engine that has an actual wood-burning oven for gourmet pizzas; the "Billy Bob Rig," which serves complete BBQ on wheels with packages that include personalized countrified soundtracks, farm tables, and staffing; and the Sweets Truck, bringing an assortment of the most tempting desserts right to you. I've also spotted taco trucks, gourmet ice cream trucks, Philly cheese-steak trucks, grilled-cheese trucks, and the green-spirited Gastrobus, which shops daily at the local farmer's market to create seasonal locavore menus. The trend is already hot in New York City and Los Angeles, why not be ahead of the curve in your town? —Maria McBride, BRIDES Wedding Style Department
