In the world of color, Pantone reigns supreme—so when the company announces its color of the year, cosmetics companies, fashion houses, you name it, all follow accordingly in their planning and manufacturing. According to Pantone, 2010 is all about turquoise. The gemstone is a treasured talisman, thought to possess protective powers by many of the world's cultures (think that "something blue"). Its namesake color is evocative of the sea and sky (think tropical honeymoon locale).
Not to leave a bride-to-be on her own after such a sweeping trend declaration, Pantone Wedding (in conjunction with the Dessy Group, maker of wedding fashions and accessories) recently launched an online tool to create an inspiration board, with 194 hues from which to choose a color scheme and fashion styles. The board can then be passed along to the wedding party and vendors electronically, complete with corresponding numbers to Pantone color chips—because one woman's "turquoise" may be another woman's "blue iris," and that's so 2008. —Donna Ferrari, BRIDES Gift Registry & Entertaining
