In our September/October issue, the Etiquette Police tackle the topic of all-dessert receptions. The writer wonders if it's tacky not to serve a meal. The police answer in the negative—we say that's it's fine, as long as the invitation indicates that guests aren't sitting down to dinner. This was actually a contentious subject in our office—a few staffers felt that a buffet of cakes, pies, brownies, chocolate truffles, and lemon bars was heaven on earth.
