Can I Have My Wedding Reception
at Giants Stadium?

Aside from "Where can I get Madonna's Cleopatra halftime look?," we bet we know what you're wondering after the New York Giants took home the Super Bowl XLVI trophy last night: Can I have my wedding at Giants Stadium?

The answer is "Yes, yes you can."

As the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, MetLife Stadium offers a variety of spaces for private events, including a fireside lounge, a ballroom, and even the field itself pending availability.

The Commissioner's Club boasts the most luxurious amenities, with 10,700 square feet of dark wood, jewel-toned décor, marble fireplaces, and velvet and leather furniture—the sort of thing you might expect from one of NYC's exclusive old-money clubs. Identical spaces on opposite sides of the stadium, the Lexus and Touchdown Clubs can accommodate larger parties for ballroom-style receptions. Decorated in a martini bar fashion, the clubs utilize high Baltic ceilings and glass windows for lots of light.

Other spaces, such as the West Hall Club on the 50 yard line and the Coaches Club between the two locker rooms, offer more traditionally "sporty" aesthetics depending on your wedding style. But nothing compares to a celebration on the field itself, which is best suited for large parties but is also available to intimate gatherings. Portrait of a Dream Wedding 2012

BRIDES-Dream-Wedding-Bloopers.jpg

Photo: Jen Huang Photography

Last year, we asked readers to tell us about their fantasy weddings, and almost a thousand of you responded. The result: February's "Portrait of a Dream Wedding 2012," which focuses on the common themes and trends that emerged in your essays.

Unfortunately, we didn't have room for everyone's nuptials. Here are some of the more unique wedding ideas you won't find in the issue.

"For the reception, I want to have The Office as my theme! Different characters for table numbers, with a little bio on each, and a Jim & Pam wedding-cake topper."
—Anna B., Batavia, OH

"A Jet Ski wedding is what I dream of.... Flower girls in flower swimsuits ride together, throwing seashells into the ocean. Wearing a white, shimmering bikini, a long veil catching the wind, I ride through an aisle formed by everyone's skis. Then my fiance, wearing dark pinstriped swim trunks, leaps ocean spray to meet me."
—Jasmine K., San Jose, CA

"I want me and my girls to look like 1940s Elvgren pinup girls, and my fiance wants to look like he just won a Grammy for best band ever."
—Randi H., Tallahassee, FL

"We'd love a medieval-themed wedding, with a jester to entertain the guests as they arrived. To start the ceremony, a bard would tell the story of how we met. Our priest would be dressed as a monk, and after the ceremony, all the guests would be invited to a masquerade ball."
—Kimberly G., Leslie, GA

"My dream wedding would include fun, fantasy, and family. There would be fun games to play, and there would be surprises such as Jedi groomsmen, communicator-pin boutonnieres and corsages, and a cake topper with the bride sneaking a pinch of the groom's bottom."
—Gretchen C., Mandeville, LA

An Alice in Wonderland Wedding

alice-in-wonderland-wedding.jpg

Photos: Lauren Brimhall

The only thing missing from this Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding is Tim Burton. Newlyweds Erin and Matt drew heavily from Burton's film version of the classic tale for their fanciful celebration, right down to Matt's feathery orange eyebrows à la Johnny Depp. The elaborate costumes and whimsical décor may look more like a stylized engagement shoot than a wedding album, but Denver-based photographer Lauren Brimhall shot these images on Erin and Matt's actual wedding day—which only makes us wonder which of the MOBs was forced to attend as the Queen of Hearts... A Party Fit for a Queen('s Sister)

pippa-new-years-eve-tent.jpg

Although it's been months since the royal wedding ignited a worldwide Middleton frenzy, the world's obsession with all things Pippa (her clothing, her love life, and, yes, even her butt) is still going strong. So don't be surprised if the trendsetter's glamorous New Year's Eve party—which she hosted under a grand white tent in the Middleton's backyard—sparks a frenzy for similar tented fêtes.

The 28-year-old party planner and in-law to the royals celebrated the New Year with a soiree fit for, well, royalty. Beneath the $5,000 tee-pee style tent (or kata), Pippa's party boasted a dance floor and seating for 100 guests, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. According to one attendee, Pippa even booked a nearby hotel in case of overflow.

While tented wedding receptions are nothing new, you can bet that they'll be on the rise in 2012 thanks to Ms. Middleton. So a word to the wise: If you're thinking of hosting your reception under a tent this year, make the reservation now before they're snatched up like one of Pippa's Zara dresses. —Rosie Purdy

Trend Alert: Tangerine

tangerine-wedding-color-trend-for-2012.jpg

Photos: Jen Huang Photography (cake); Studio Choo (bouquet); Style.com (attire), Minted.com (invite), and Pretty Penny (scarf)

Each year, we look forward to hearing what Pantone, the leading authority on all things color, deems to be the next hot hue. For 2012, they're predicting it will be all about tangerine (Pantone 17-1463), a zingy orange-red hue that I happen to love. Citrus colors are always bright and refreshing, and tangerine can easily be incorporated into your wedding-color palette when paired with a more neutral shade, like slate gray or soft cream. If you're considering tangerine for your wedding, here are some of my favorite color-coordinated elements. —Heather Lee

Clockwise from top left:
1) Wedding cake by Lael
Love the precise fondant pleats on this cake design—so modern and streamlined.

2) Bouquet by Studio Choo
Rosemary, kumquats, and citrus-colored ranunculuses are an inspired and fragrant combination.

3) Attire by Christian Siriano
Will someone please, please walk down the aisle in this incredible striped-top-and-tulle-skirt number?

4) "Summer Sun" wedding invite by Minted
This modern design reflects the vibrant colors of the sunset.

5) "Rockabilly" scarf by Pretty Penny
Your bridesmaids will love accessorizing with this boldly patterned silk scarf.

Recently, we've noticed festive polka dots popping up everywhere—on the fashion runways, on kids' clothing, and even at weddings. We love the idea of incorporating gold polka dots as a wedding motif—they're sophisticated and festive, but also convey a sense of whimsy and playfulness. We've put together a few of our favorite wedding style details featuring the motif. —Heather Lee and Mallory Toombs

Clockwise from top left:
1) Wedding invitation designed by the bride Kate Allen; calligraphy by Plurabelle Calligraphy
Love the smattering of gold foil polka dots on this letterpress-printed invitation.

2) Carla Caruso ring
A simple-yet-mod take on a wedding band.

3) Luisa Galuppo wedding cake
The middle tier of this elegant, shimmery cake is studded with tiny edible pearls.

4) Kate Spade "Twirl" perfume
Gift your bridesmaids with a bottle of this pretty perfume (the fragrance is inspired by French macaron cookies!).

5) Flower girl attire by J.Crew
Instead of a basic beribboned white dress, outfit your flower girl in this dotted-top-and-skirt-combo (which she can easily re-wear).

Color Palette Inspiration:
'Pen Blow' Paintings

shane-mcadams-pen-blow-art.jpg

Photos: Courtesy of Shane McAdams

What do the cast of Jersey Shore and these ink-strewn panels from Brooklyn-based artist Shane McAdams have in common? They've all done serious time in a tanning bed. McAdams creates his "Pen Blow" paintings by emptying ballpoint pen cartridges onto canvases and drying them under UV light in a tanning bed. The rays activate the ink, causing it to bleed and streak into a web of vibrant hues. "The work that you see is the result of hundreds of hours of testing and playing with the material to know what it can do," the artist told Co.Design.

But McAdam's fastidious trial-and-error method produces more than just distinctive artwork—his captivating use of color doubles as a fount of wedding palette inspiration. The ombré tones of cool green and shocking pink easily translate into vivid floral arrangements (like in this reception tablescape), while a mingling of pale springtime hues suggests an elegant garden ceremony.

I'm currently loving the romantic look of vintage botanical drawings used as a wedding motif. Cases in point: A stunning wedding cake by Faye Cahill Cake Design in Australia featuring handpainted lilies, which would look lovely paired with "Sweet," an invitation by stationer Mika78 featuring etched floral and butterfly illustrations letterpress-printed on blush-colored paper. —Heather Lee

Jennifer and Chad met in 2007 while playing kickball with a group of friends at a local park. The couple chose to host their wedding at River Birch lodge after Jennifer's roommate at the time attended a wedding there and suggested it would be the perfect place. On their wedding day, the bride wore a silk doupioni Romona Keveza gown, which she accessorized with a French Connection wrap, starburst-shaped earrings by Janis Savitt, and shoes by Pour la Victoire.

Vintage-Inspired Details

For her wedding to Gregory, Sara made her entrance in a 1914 Lozier touring car rented from Andy Oldman. "It was timed so that my entrance song—a tune by my younger brother's band—started playing as the car pulled up," says Sara. She wore a Marisa gown she found at the annual Filene's Basement "Running of the Brides" sale, then had altered by local designer Harper Della-Piana of Seams Couture. The bride's finger-wave updo, styled by Michelle Florence of Body Mind Spirit Day Spa, was adorned with a brooch she found at a flea market; she also sported her grandmother's watch and shoes by Poetic Licence.

Autumn's Resplendent Palette

desirea-and-james-nj-wedding.jpg

Photos: Elisabeth Millay with Kelly Kollar

In keeping with the atmosphere of the 18th-century inn they selected for their wedding, Desirea and James wanted the décor to have an antique-inspired look with lots of seasonal touches. Table centerpieces featured mums, dahlias, solidagos, and berries arranged in antique teapots and Spode pitchers. The autumnal theme carried through from cocktail hour on the patio, where the couple's 135 guests sipped pumpkin spice martinis and enjoyed mini hamburgers, to the three-course meal, which included an apple butternut bisque, chateaubriand, and roasted rosemary potatoes. During the reception, guests who wanted a break from dancing could enjoy an outdoor fire pit, complete with scotch, cigars, and a s'mores station. "We wanted our guests to feel like they were in a different time in a far-off place," says Desirea.

An Urban Rustic Theme

dorsey-austin-atlanta-wedding.jpg

Photos: Laura Negri Photography

Dorsey and Austin, who first met at a mutual friend's wedding, wanted their own celebration to have "sophisticated style with natural decor," says the bride. She wore a one-shoulder Romona Keveza gown and veil from Impressions Bridal Salon, while her groom sported a Ralph Lauren tuxedo. The wedding was held at the Foundry at Puritan Mill, a contemporary event space in Atlanta. The couple wed beneath a canopy of flowering branches as lanterns provided a romantic glow. "To soften the Foundry's industrial feel, we draped sheer ivory fabric over the walls," says Dorsey, who planned the wedding with the help of Lindsay Pitt of Toast Events. "We also hung lanterns from the ceiling to make the space feel more intimate."

"Dark Sky": New Weather App Rescues Rained-Out Weddings

Bridal lore has it that a rain shower on your wedding day ensures good luck in your marriage... but try telling that to your frizzled hair and soggy canapés. Weather-induced wedding despair might soon be at an end, however, if Jack Turner and Adam Grossman's new forecasting app reaches a mass audience. "Dark Sky" combines a streaming radar map with your device's GPS to pinpoint hyper-local updates accurate down to the minute—which means you'll know if, say, you have 20 minutes to get down the aisle before the sky opens up. Follow the jump to watch a video of the inventors explaining the technology behind their short-term weather predictor. —Phillip B. Crook
