5 Stunning 'Down The Aisle' Settings

down-the-aisle-settings-on-pinterest.jpg

Photo: Courtesy of Susan Dean

Everyone stands up and excitedly turns their head as the bride begins to process down the aisle. It's the moment everyone's been waiting for. Often rivaling this momentous scene are the beautiful ceremony settings. We bring you three that have especially wowed us recently. Courtesy of, what else, Pinterest:

1. Brittany and Craig in Beacon, NY: These two foodie sweethearts chose an 18th-century Dutch Colonial homestead to host their rustic wedding day. In this shot, nearly 100 of the couples family and friends sat in the circa-1740 Dutch-style barn with wildflowers and candles gracing the aisle. We can practically hear the creaky wooden floor and rushing Hudson River nearby. (Photo: Courtesy of Jose Reyes Photography)

2. Kate & Michael in Santa Barbara, CA: Now San Diego-based, this couple decided to return to the scene of where they first met for their wedding day. At the 5 p.m. ceremony, held on a bluff, the couple exchanged vows beneath a chiffon-draped canopy. We love the baskets adorning the aisles that hold umbrellas to shield the sun. What a cute idea! 3. Alyssa and Kevin in Bay Harbor, MI: After meeting as lab partners in college, these two settled on Alyssa's childhood vacation spot as the backdrop for their classic lake-side affair. The ceremony, however, took place at the breath-taking St. Francis Xavier Parish. The sky-high arches and stained-glass are seriously magnificent in this shot. And according to the bride, with a church like that "[you don't] need much additional decor." (Photo: Courtesy of Weber Photography)

Flash Mob Proposal

Video: Courtesy of Flash Mob America

What does it say about Pete that he'd arrange for a choreographed flash mob to help him propose to Siobhan, when—self-admittedly—he isn't much of a dancer? I think it says he loves her like crazy.

Of course, you also have to consider that Pete and Siobhan traveled to New York from the UK during the holidays, which means Pete learned the moves to Bruno Mars' "Marry You" back home. A non-dancer secretly practicing steps thousands of miles away from his stage? That's some serious proposal commitment (and might also explain why he forgot a few moves, but, still, it's cute). —Phillip B. Crook

Watch: The 5 Most-Viewed Proposals on YouTube

If you weren't surprised with your own caught-on-camera proposal in 2011, chances are you participated in one (flash mobs require mobs, after all), or at the very least contributed to the millions of views proposals generated on YouTube this year.

Leading the pack of engagements-gone-viral was a cinematic-themed proposal one man staged back in May when his girlfriend went to see Fast Five with her brother. The lights dimmed, the screen rolled out, and then he...well, you'll have to watch to find out why this proposal earned more than 20 million views in a matter of months. Watch: An Indian Wedding
with a Southern Flair

Courtesy of Pixotheory on Vimeo.

Nitya and Neal, who grew up in Georgia and Tennessee, respectively, wanted their wedding to reflect their Southern roots as well as their Indian heritage. They held their ceremony and reception at Summerour Studio, a refurbished warehouse space in Atlanta. Following the traditional Indian ceremony, the venue was transformed into an elegant reception with sparkling chandeliers and a vibrant navy-and-fuchsia color palette. Before the newlyweds entered the reception, they played for their guests a video (above, created by their videographer Pixotheory) as a tribute and thank-you to their friends and family members.

Watch: An Interview with Designer Reem Acra

For Fall 2012, designer Reem Acra played with new ways to swathe her bride in translucent, sheer fabrics—the most notable of which was a lace pattern laser-cut into organza and tulle. "It's something new, something unheard of before," Acra told us at her New York Bridal Fashion Week show. "For me, it's about changing the lace idea." Ready, Ready, Ready, Ready to Run: The NYC Marathon Wedding

Video: Courtesy of Universal Sports

I awoke (rather early) Sunday morning to the sounds of cheering, street music, and herd-like shuffling issuing through my window from the street below. The source of all this revelry? The New York City Marathon. Were my Brooklyn apartment not situated along an early leg of the race, I might have caught a glimpse of Mary and Raymond Donaldson's wedding ceremony, which occurred mid-stride at mile 22. "We met running, so we thought that would be appropriate," Mary tells an NBC reporter in this video. The glistening bride seems to have taken a page from Venus Williams' fashion bible by donning a long-sleeve, white athletic top and matching tennis skirt, which she topped off with a white baseball cap and a veil. The Donaldsons left today for their honeymoon in Italy... where they hopefully won't be taking any walking tours. —Phillip B. Crook

Watch: An Interview with Designer Monique Lhuillier

"It seems to come to me in a dream or in a weekend—it just happens very quickly," Monique Lhuillier told us of her inspiration for the Fall 2012 collection. Though similar in silhouette and style to past collections, the lineup of gowns walking the runway this time around made a sexier statement with sheer corsets and high slits. "There was a lot more sensuality," Lhuillier said. "There was a lot more skin showing." Watch: An Interview with Christos Designer Amsale Aberra

If you thought the sparkle of a Swarvoski crystal solely belonged to the Kenneth Pool bride, you thought wrong. "Even the Christos girl likes some shimmer," designer Amsale Aberra told us backstage at her show for Christos—the one line from Aberra's three that is more typically associated with flowing laces and soft silhouettes. This time around, Aberra turned up the volume to present a bride that, while still young and fresh, commands a little more attention. "I want to show the beauty of a woman," designer Ines Di Santo told us backstage at her Fall 2012 runway show. Di Santo presented gowns this season enlivened with her signature volt of glamour and drama, only this time inspired by celebrity red carpet looks. The flash of a paparazzi bulb seems a fitting complement, after all, to the Italian designer's cant-tear-your-eyes-away aesthetic.
