New Photos: Camila Alves' Engagement Ring

How does it feel to be Camila Alves wearing an engagement ring from Matthew McConaughey? "It feels so great," Alves said in an interview with Us Weekly. "It's a rose cut. It's a beautiful ring."

Known for her modeling and tv-hosting careers, Alves showed off her ring for the first time at QVC's New York Fashion Week show yesterday. She walked the red carpet to promote her Muxo handbag line, which comes in at a close second as the most exciting development in the 29-year-old's life.

Topping the list, of course, is her engagement to McConaughey, who proposed Christmas morning and then tweeted the good news to his fans: "Just asked Camila to marry me, #MerryChristmas." The couple have been together for five years and have two children together—Levi, 3, and Vida, 1.

Sid & Nancy-Inspired
Wedding Looks

sid-and-nancy.jpg

Photo: Via The Paradime

Before Sid and Nancy became Sid and Nancy, they were just a couple of punks in love—a fact we're reminded of by a rediscovered list from 1978 penned by the 20-year-old Sid Vicious detailing Nancy Spungen's best qualities. Or, as Sid puts it, "What Makes Nancy So Great."

The list includes such affectionate observations as "makes extremely interesting conversation" and "even has sexy feet," but it was Sid's comment that Nancy "has fab taste in clothes" that got us thinking. What if the ill-fated lovers hadn't been so ill-fated? What would they have worn to get married?

sid-and-nancy-wedding-inspiration.jpg

Photos: Conde Nast Digital Studio (dress); courtesy of the vendors (others)

White dress or not, Nancy was never one to neglect leather. Her bridal ensemble wouldn't have been complete without a bitchin' motorcycle jacket paired with a roughed-up wedding gown and an iconic flash of animal print. Torn between the hard-edged cool of chain jewelry and the unapologetic glamour of rhinestones, Nancy was a devotee to statement accessories—so, obviously, as a bride she'd need to make a bold statement. Paint on a daring red lip and Nancy would be set to rock down the aisle.

Wedding gown, Anne Barge; Jacket, $47, H&M; Rhinestone earrings, $300, Dannijo; Bionda Castana shoes, $705, Browns; Lion collar necklace, $24, Miss Selfridge; Lipstick, $16, Topshop

Not to be outdone by his bride, Sid Vicious might have pulled the ultimate shocker on his wedding day and actually worn a shirt. And maybe even a suit! But not just any suit, of course—a suit with a dark, Tim Burton-esque aesthetic that he could have paired with studded leather boots and heavy-metal jewelry. (Sid was famous for his silver lock chocker necklace.) No rock star is complete without his all-important shades and a generous dose of hair product—although in the case of this spike-coiffed Sex Pistols bassist, make that the entire bottle.

Suit, Alexander McQueen; Boots, $53.72, ASOS; Mosley Tribes sunglasses, $107.99, Zappos; Balenciaga necklace, $445, Barneys; Got 2b gel, $5.99, Drugstore.com

Editors' Picks:
Glenn Close's Oscar Gown

editors-picks-glenn-close-oscar-dress-1.jpg

Photos: Fairchild Archive (Glenn); Conde Nast Digital Studio (runway)

The role for which Glenn Close has earned a Best Actress nomination this year is about as unglamorous as they come. To inhabit Albert Nobbs—an Englishwoman posing as a man in 19th-century Ireland—Close stripped away any trace of the elegant, blond-tressed woman who's graced the Oscars for nearly three decades. But if Close wants to finally land her long-overdue Academy Award, we suggest she turn up the glamour this year to maximum drama.

Taken from the most dramatic bridal runway of the Fall 2012 season, Vera Wang's nude-and-black lace ball gown falls neatly into the actress' strapless-silhouette comfort zone, while offering an evolution to her standard red carpet style. We often see Close in solidly dark gowns, but a punch of detail, like lace appliqués mingled beneath layers of tulle, would boost her look from understated to undervalued.

Because that's what Close has proved herself to be ever since her stunningly costumed, fiercely acted performance in Dangerous Liaisons—defining a range that her performance in Albert Nobbs only punctuates.

Watch: The Giants'
Super Bowl Engagement

Video: Courtesy of IMAVEX

While a frenzy of reporters and photographers swarmed the stars of Super Bowl XLVI—New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin and quaterback Eli Manning—rookie linebacker #53, Greg Jones, and his girlfriend, Mandy Piechowski, shared an intimate moment amidst the victory celebration erupting on the field.

Getting down on one knee, Jones proposed to Piechowski—and she said yes, but, "she was bawling," Jones told The Star-Ledger. "I was like, I don't know how long she's going to keep crying." Watch as this footage from the confetti-sprinkled field captures Piechowski putting on her ring for the first time, just moments after Jones surprised her with his proposal.

Inside Anne Hathaway's NYC Engagement Party

Anne Hathaway and fiancé Adam Shulman celebrated their engagement Saturday night with an intimate 125-person party at Housing Works Bookstore Café in New York City. Located in downtown Manhattan's shopping district, the bookstore cafe occupies a restored historic building with 20-foot ceilings, spiral staircases, and mahogany bookshelves. The space often plays host to a variety of events, including parties like Hathaway's and smaller weddings, and, better still, the rental cost for private parties benefits the store's larger counterpart, Housing Works, a nonprofit organization that works to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS.

While the bookstore is no stranger to the presence of celebrities (the space has appeared in Gossip Girl, Sex in the City, and Law and Order), we think Hathaway's quiet evening among friends and family featured the SoHo landmark at its best. For information on hosting your own celebration at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, contact rentals@housingworksbookstore.org or call 212-780-1942.

Steal This Look: Drew Barrymore's Tonight Show J.Crew Dress

drew-barrymore-jcrew.jpg

Photo: Courtesy of NBC

Despite the nearly-4-carat diamond ring on her hand, it was Drew Barrymore's floral silk dress, $190, from J.Crew that brightened up the set of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week. And if Drew can wear it, you can wear it.

The boxy, 60s-shift cut keeps the style understated, thus balancing out the bold colors of the print. Drew highlighted deep purple tones by styling her look with black tights and purple Brian Atwood suede pumps.

Give the dress your own twist (a stack of bright bangles, perhaps?) as an effortlessly chic option for bridal showers and rehearsal dinners—like Drew, you'll be the center of attention. Or, if you're off on your honeymoon to a floral-splashed locale, take the dress with you. You'll fit right in!

See our picks below for styling the look three different ways:

Kristin Cavallari's Post-Baby
Wedding Gown Picks

kristin-cavallari-wedding-dresses-2.jpg

Photos: Conde Nast Digital Archive

It seems Kristin Cavallari opted for the Jessica Simpson approach to her engagement by postponing her wedding to Jay Culter until after their baby is born. The reality star and future football wife told Celeb Buzz: "I'm pregnant! I'm not going to go try on wedding dresses."

After an on-again-off-again courtship, Cavallari and her Chicago-Bears-quarterback fiancé announced in November their wedding was back on, thickening the plot yet again with the news last month that they're expecting.

While we originally picked three empire-waisted, chiffon and tulle gowns to give her (and her baby) a little wiggle room, now that Cavallari is steering clear of bridal salons until after she delivers, we lined up a second selection of dresses for the new mom.

Both on and off the red carpet, Cavallari epitomizes California cool-girl style—sporting a mix of effortless, sexy, and on-trend silhouettes from designers like Alice + Olivia, Helmut Lang, and Herve Leger. When her post-baby body bounces back, we expect Cavallari will choose a wedding dress to show it off.

To that end, Elizabeth Fillmore's coquettish blush gown (left) with an optional lace peplum offers the ultimate in sex appeal. But if the mom-to-be goes with a less formal affair, we like these short dresses from Tara Keely (center) and Hayley Paige (right) for their flirty proportions and graphic skirts.

Come Sunday, Gisele Has Her Husband's Back

gisele-bundchen-and-tom-brady-email-1.jpg

Photo: Fairchild Archive

Supermodel maybe, but Gisele Bundchen is one thing for sure: super sweet. In an email obtained by the New York Post, Bundchen writes to friends and family asking for their prayers and thoughts this weekend as her husband, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, steps into the Super Bowl arena.

"This Sunday will be a really important day in my husband's life," the model writes. "He and his team worked so hard to get to this point and now they need us more than ever to send them positive energy so they can fulfill their dream of winning this super bowl.

So I kindly ask all of you to join me on this positive chain and pray for him, so he can feel confident, healthy and strong. Envision him happy and fulfilled experiencing with his team a victory this Sunday. Thank you for your love and support. Love, G :)"

Which team will win Super Bowl XLVI remains to be seen, but Gisele, at least, wins our vote for Wife of the Day (you know, if such a thing existed).

Watch: Drew Barrymore Dishes on Fiancé Will Kopelman

Video: Courtesy of The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Drew Barrymore stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to promote her new whale-hugging movie Big Miracle, but, naturally, the subject of her recent engagement also came up. "He's a good man," the star said of fiancé Will Kopelman. "I just feel really lucky. And really happy. And really calm." Barrymore's sense of calm is probably due to the fact that she hasn't yet begun planning her wedding—but when she does, this is where she should start.

"And he has this incredible family," Barrymore continued. "I'm as in love with his family as I am with him, which is an extraordinary gift." Oh, good—then the actress can ask her soon-to-be mother-in-law's opinion on our lineup of Drew-inspired designer wedding gown sketches.

katrina-bowden-engagement-ring-details-2.jpg

Actress Katrina Bowden and musician Ben Jorgensen shared the news of their engagement live from the SAG Awards red carpet on Sunday—giving the world a first look at Bowden's dazzling engagement ring.

The design incorporates a princess-cut diamond flanked by two smaller stones that taper into a carved-channel band. Jewelry expert Michael O'Connor, in an interview with Us Weekly, estimated the value of the ring to be $30,000. Bowden revealed before the awards show that Jorgensen's proposal in a suite at L.A.'s Four Seasons Hotel came as a surprise because he selected the ring on his own. "I was so shocked," she said.

Get the Look: Kaley Cuoco's
Romona Keveza Gown

Photos: Fairchild Archive (Kaley); Conde Nast Digital Studio (runway)

As the waitressing blonde amongst a gaggle of physicists on CBS's Big Bang Theory, actress Kaley Cuoco is used to sticking out—and pop she did at this year's SAG Awards in a Tiffany-blue ball gown by Romona Keveza. Taken from the designer's Fall 2012 runway, the gown features a voluminous skirt of feathered rosettes topped by a wrap-pleated sweetheart bodice. In a sea of white gowns on the red carpet, Cuoco highlighted one of the season's top bridal trends: soft, heavenly hues that range from light blue to dusty elderberry to pale yellow. Letting her colorful gown take the attention, Cuoco kept her styling simple with a matching clutch and a Heidi-esque braided updo.

Stars in White at the
2012 SAG Awards

viola-davis-sags-dress.jpg

Photo: Fairchild Archive

Looking like a triumphant goddess in a Grecian Marchesa gown, Viola Davis ruled the night at the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards, taking home the statue for female actor in a leading role. Embellished with a frieze of copper embroidery across an asymmetrical bodice, Davis's draped silk-chiffon gown evokes a similar feel to this look from Marchesa's Spring 2011 collection, although that design featured three-dimensional folds embellished in silver. And while The Help star styled her gown with a bob of bouncy curls and jewelry by Cathy Waterman, she wasn't the only A-lister to don a white, wedding-worthy design last night.

Wedding-Worthy?
Rose Byrne's White Jumpsuit

rose-byrne-red-carpet-jumpsuit.jpg

Photo: Fairchild Archive

Channelling the disco-thumping glamour of the 1970s at last night's SAG Awards, actress Rose Byrne sported a sequin-dusted jumpsuit from Elie Saab's Fall 2009 couture collection. The Bridesmaids star capped the look off with a sleek bob inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface (although there's obviously a little Anna Wintour in the style, too.) When fashion heavy-hitters Gwen Stefani and Iman both wore long-sleeved, sequined Stella McCartney jumpsuits last year, we wondered how the look would fare in white for a wedding. "Ick" was all commenter MrsJJ2010 had to say at the time—but now that Rose Byrne has given the idea a second go, what do you think?

Would you wear this jumpsuit to your wedding?

30 Rock's Katrina Bowden is Engaged

katrina-bowden-engaged.jpg

Photo: WireImage

30 Rock blonde-girl Katrina Bowden announced her engagement live from the red carpet at last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards. "I was so shocked," the actress told E!'s Giuliana Rancic. "That's why I forgot to say 'yes' at first." The man Bowden kept waiting was Armor for Sleep frontman Ben Jorgensen, who proposed Saturday night in a suite at L.A.'s Four Seasons Hotel with a ring that also came as a surprise. "He picked it out all by himself," the actress explained.

Attending the awards last night as a nominated member of an outstanding ensemble in a comedy series, Bowden wore a strapless champagne column beneath an embellished tulle overlay by Amsale—a daringly bridal choice to don on a red carpet where you're announcing your engagement. How is the actress supposed to top the look come her wedding day? In another Amsale gown, obviously.
