Do I Have to Share Pictures of My Engagement Ring?

The second you start telling people you're engaged, they're going to want to get a look at your sparkler. After all, it's a symbol that shows he asked and you said yes! But while letting them take a gander at your left hand in person is all well and good (and hard to avoid), do you have to post pictures of your engagement ring online or send a text so your friends and family can see it? Here's what our experts have to say.

Just as you're totally justified in not sharing the details, such as size or cost, of your engagement ring, you also aren't obligated to share pictures. Sure, you might want to send one to your mom if you live far away, but when it comes to engagement ring selfies, the answer to "to post or not to post?" is up to you.

Many brides opt to share a picture of themselves with their new fiancé that might hint at an engagement ring (with their left hand delicately placed on his chest, for example) but choose to avoid the close-up picture that shows every little detail. This is a great way to share the happy news without feeling like you're flaunting your new jewelry. Whether you're more reserved or want to avoid unwelcome comments from distant friends you forgot you were connected with on Facebook, there's no need to explain — simply keep the pictures to yourself, or don't take them at all!

And what if someone asks if they can see what you're wearing on that finger? Let them know that photos don't do it justice, and that you'd much rather show them in person. Or, simply say you'd rather not have pictures online or sent around amongst other friends. You've got a right to celebrate your engagement privately, and shouldn't feel pressured to share anything if you don't want to!
