Adam Lippes's popularity is rising season after season — his modern luxe spins on classic silhouettes have become a go-to for stylish jetsetters around the globe, as well as celebs including Gigi Hadid and Chrissy Teigen. Though his brand has been around for a decade, he caught our bridal eye less than a year ago as part of Net-A-Porter's Bridal Edit. And he is teaming up with the retail juggernaut yet again: this time creating a capsule collection for its sister site The Outnet.

For this assortment, Lippes has created twelve designs — ranging from sleek dresses to effortless trousers. We couldn't help but notice that so many of the pieces would create perfect bridal shower, bachelorette party, or rehearsal dinner looks, so we had to catch up with the designer! The custom-wedding gowns he creates for his clients, the legacy of Oscar de la Renta, and his upcoming Resort collection were all of the menu.

We would love to hear the backstory of how this collection came to fruition and what it was like working with The Outnet team.
Well we have been doing capsule collections with Net-A-Porter going back pretty close to the launch of our brand, as well as working with The Outnet on a few special projects. We thought it would be really fun to do some great Summer pieces, as we've had such a great partnership.

Summer is a huge season for weddings and we couldn't help but notice that the pieces in the collection are perfect for pre-wedding parties! Did you have that in mind at all? And do you have any pre-wedding party style tips for brides-to-be?

I travel all over the world working with customers and you're so right: we do find a lot of brides-to-be who are buying designs from my collections for both the rehearsal dinner and the reception. They definitely love party dresses and they've been so much fun to do. We've also been creating a lot of custom wedding dresses — essentially taking numbers and remaking them in white or off-white. [Our customers are] truly expanding the idea of what it means to wear bridal. It doesn't have to be a wedding dress, made by a wedding dress designer, that was shown during bridal fashion week.

So does that mean a bridal collection is in your future?
We've actually been discussing this! We want to take our signatures and tweak them a bit each season in white and off-white for brides. We've been thinking about this a lot: not doing special wedding dresses but instead, our trademark silhouettes with brides in mind.

Affordability is also a key tenet of The Outnet. Is that something you continue to focus on?
One reason I wanted to work with The Outnet is because they're able to offer designs like these to the consumer without sacrificing any of the quality, design, or service when it comes to how they sell it. They're not only able to do these integral things, but they're also able to open up a bit of a bigger world. The aspirational customer who wants designer wares because she's looking for high-quality and high-fashion can shop the site without compromising anything.

Your brand has been around for awhile now, which is a great feat for any designer. And before launching it, you spent a number of years at Oscar de la Renta. For fashion-loving women everywhere and especially for brides-to-be, the brand has this undeniable magic and fantasy. Though he has passed, his legacy continues on.What did you learn from ODLR when it comes to dressing women, making them feel good, and style?
I didn't go to design school — I studied psychology which actually ended up being perfect for what I do! I learned all I know about design from Oscar. He was never a man who chased trends or who was finding ways to be cool — he tried and succeeded at making beautifully-fitting clothes that a woman could put on and smile. He would often tell me, "What we do is not complicated, my job is to have a woman put on a dress and feel great." I hold those words close to my heart. Pretty is not a bad word. I always choose sensuality over sexiness. Things need to be perfectly fit and tailored. These are the lessons I take with me and I will never compromise on them. Oscar never compromised on those aspects and his brand still does not now that he's gone.

What's next for your brand this year?
We are launching Resort next week: we style it next week and shoot it the week after. So that's my main focus right now. I'll then be traveling a lot for events and stores. Our first shoe collection then launches in July, so we're excited for that. Our business is divided between the US and international countries.

Adam Lippes's Summer Capsule Collection for The Outnet launches on May 19th.
