My Friend's Baby is Due Any Day! How Can We Accommodate Her at Our Wedding?

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage! There's nothing like celebrating a wedding alongside the impending arrival of your friend's little bundle of joy. But if that bundle of joy is due to arrive on or around your wedding date, you may want to make a few special accommodations. Here are a few things to consider, courtesy of our experts.

When your friend is as pregnant as she can possibly get, making sure she's comfortable is key. If she's a bridesmaid, be sure to have a stool or chair up at the altar so she can sit down during your ceremony. As a guest, have an usher help her find her seat, and seat her along the aisle if she's concerned about being able to sit comfortably throughout the readings and vows. If your ceremony will be outside in the sun, a fan or parasol would be a great way to help her keep cool.

At cocktail hour, consider offering a mocktail alongside your specialty cocktail, as well as having ginger ale and club soda on-hand for sipping. Again, she may not feel comfortable standing for long periods of time, so make sure there's a chair available for her.

When it comes to seating her at dinner, if you have the flexibility (and she's really due, like, tomorrow), seat her at a table near the side of the room or close to the door. You never know when she may need to make a quick exit to head to Labor and Delivery!

And of course, keep in mind that the little one may arrive before your wedding day, so she may have to miss the festivities completely (or bring an unexpected plus-one!). Take lots of pictures, assign a mutual friend to FaceTime or Skype with her during the ceremony, and arrange to have a bouquet of beautiful flowers sent to her room, with love from the newlyweds!
