Throughout many cultures, the traditional white wedding dress symbolizes purity, spirituality and "bridal joy." But, up until royal bride Queen Victoria, many other brides (including royalty) didn't wear white on their wedding day — so why should you feel like you have to? For daring brides wanting to break with tradition, or brides whom prefer to just shake things up a bit — here are our favorite color alternatives to "wedding white."
Blush wedding gowns are growing in popularity, and for good reason. Especially flattering on fairer complexions, blush hues add a romantic feel to your bridal look, without being far away from traditional white or ivory on the color wheel. Our favorites? Danielle Caprese, exclusive to Kleinfeld makes a variety of luxurious blush ball gown options. Vera Wang also combines blush tones with tulle, chiffon and other embellishments in a bunch of her current bridal options, while Monique Lhuillier embraces the soft hue in dozens of her romantic-inspired gowns.

Something borrowed, something blue? Take that phrase to a new level by saying, "I do" while wearing blue. Wedding Dress designer David Tutera has incorporated a Cinderella-esque blue hue into his collections for Mon Cheri and in his Fall 2016 collection, Lazaro used silk-organza in an opulent wisteria for select gowns. Naeem Khan uses French blue silk in her Spring 2016 collection, and Hayley Paige incorporates hues of porcelain blue and blue-ish mint into her recent designs. While you'll be feeling quite the opposite of blue on your wedding day, you're sure to dazzle in any of these gowns.

While embracing a black gown might be a bit out of your bridal comfort zone, we encourage you to give it a try! While it might not be for everyone, there are so many gorgeous black wedding gowns that deserve consideration for your big day. (You don't know until you try, after all!) Truly Zac Posen at David's Bridal has dared to go there by crafting lavishly sleek black wedding gowns with sparkling embellishments in various styles. Inbal Dror's Fall 2016 line debuted sexy black statement-making wedding gowns, while Claire Pettibone Romantique offers the "Virginia" gown in beautiful black.

Kitty Chen, Theia, Legends by Romona Keveza, and Oscar de la Renta all embrace this bold and regal color in their designs. It is the color of love and passion, after all. Lace, feathers, and ruffles — you name it — you can find even the most traditional bridal styles in this untraditional color. Be a real "lady in red" on your wedding day by embracing this bold trend and you're sure to stun your guests, and your new husband!
