Engagement pictures, should you choose to take them, are one of the first things that you and your fiancé will do together after you say "yes!" Since you want the photos to be timeless and elegant, much like your wedding photos, there can be pressure when it comes to finding the ideal outfit. To help you navigate the engagement picture outfit waters, we chatted with stylist Jenni Martini, of Bungalow Clothing, for tips on what to wear!
What's hot right now
"Vintage is big this year, which is ideal for achieving an elegant look for your engagement pictures" explains Martini. When it comes to accessories, less is more. A few subtle pops of metallic, whether its through an accessory or part of your outfit, are all you need— you don't want to take the focus off of you, or your gorgeous engagement ring!
Dress for your body type
Clothing looks best if it fits properly and accentuates your assets. "When selecting outfits for a client, I first and foremost pay attention to their body type," explains Martini, "then I check their questionnaire to figure out what areas of their body they like to accentuate." Her go-to tips are below:
Pear-Shaped: To show off your curves, focus on cinching the waist with an A-line design that flares at the bottom.
Apple-Shaped: An A-line style with a gradual flow from the waist to the legs is always flattering. This shape is also great for a dress with texture and/or a deep v-neck.
Busty: Scoop and sweetheart necklines offer support and open up the décolletage so the focus is on the face rather than the bust.
Small Chest: Look for textured or ruched styles to create fullness in the chest area.
Plus Size: If you have a curvy figure, an empire waist dress is super flattering. This will emphasize the smallest portion under the bust, creating a the effect of a slender silhouette from top to bottom.

Being engaged is an exciting time. Aside from your pictures you will have other events, like an engagement party and rehearsal dinner, making this a good time to invest in some quality pieces that can be worn again. "We love the chic and edgy look of Iro's fitted jackets and dresses" explains Jenni, "as well as Nili Lotan's classic spaghetti strap maxi in white, which projects an effortless look, reminiscent of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. For a more casual look, I'd recommend going with a solid cashmere or basic tee from Vince matched with a pair of tailored jeans."
