Relaxing, destressing, blissfully unhurried days with your (newly hitched!) partner in crime— your honeymoon should be the "yin" to that "yang" of emotion, excitement and frenzy of activity that's also known as wedding planning. Have you and your new-hubby always dreamed of a yoga retreat honeymoon instead of pool-side margaritas? Why not make your newlywed retreat a destination worthy of your travel bucket list?
Himalayan Pilgrimage: Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in a former estate palace of the Maharaja of Tehri-Garhwal, Ananda Spa is something of a gold standard when it comes to holistic wellness practices. Oprah Winfrey has said of Ananda: "It's the most authentic spa experience I've ever had. Here in the birthplace of yoga, they take restoration and renewal seriously. It's a life-enhancing process that begins the moment you arrive." Two, three, and five-night spa packages are designed to balance the five senses through Yoga, Ayurveda and Vedanta.
Classic Napa Valley: More than 30 years after its humble beginnings as an inn adjacent to Napa's first fine-dining restaurant, the luxe Auberge du Soleil Resort is a bonafide institution— with a Michelin star, to boot. The on-site spa, exclusively for the use of resort guests, occupies a sprawling 7,000 square feet overlooking vineyards and olive groves. Nearby Calistoga Ranch is a largely open-air luxury retreat set on 157 private acres— a true wooded sanctuary. Unwind at the spa or in the ranch's rejuvenating soaking pools (Calistoga is famous for its hot springs).
On the Horizon: Known for its wellness-focused 5-star resorts in exotic locales (Douro Valley, Portugal; Yao Noi, Thailand; Zighy Bay, Oman; among others), this year Six Senses is rolling out a new Integrated Wellness Program that has been two years in the making. The program touches on everything from sleep and nutrition to fitness, detox, and relaxation. Boutique wellness resort Santani, which means "harmony" in Sanskrit, is opening in Sri Lanka in March. Expect a holistic approach to wellness with nods to the Ayurvedic culture of the island.
