Funny Chicago Wedding Details

In a city known for its comedy scene, a wedding celebration with a sense of humor seems fitting. And while your best man might think he deserves to grace Second City's stage with a few light-hearted details from local vendors, you and your fiancé can show your audience, er, guests, that you're the real jokesters.

Before the Wedding
Set a playful tone right off the bat with your save-the-dates, invitations, or RSVP cards. Follow the lead of the Chicago couple that made headlines in 2013 when their quirky, customized reply cards — which included optional responses like "Two words: Free. Booze" and "On a scale of one to ten, my lameness would be in 9.5 to 9.8 range" — went viral. Or, if you'd rather add a pop of personality to an otherwise traditional stationary suite, opt for pretty RSVPs formatted as Mad Libs from Beacon Lane. Read real brides' reviews here!

In Your Welcome Bags
The options are endless here, but out-of-town guests and locals alike will get a kick out of a goofy gift bag, whether you make your own or find a few that make you laugh. We love the irreverence of this Chicago style hot dog tote from FourSided. Stock it with a book or DVD about or starring famous comedians with Chicago roots like John Belushi or Tina Fey, along with other unexpected treats.

With Your Wedding Party
There's no better time to get the giggles than while you're getting ready for the big day, so gift your bridesmaids or groomsmen custom koozies screenprinted with your favorite Bridesmaids or Mean Girls quotes or adorably dorky tuxedo sleeves from Lincoln Square's Urban General Store for your afternoon bubbles or brewskies.

With Dessert
Get creative with your cake toppers. Trade in the teeny plastic bride and groom for a silly sign or something funky and fun like the metallic dinosaurs (above) from local Etsy artist Susan Myburgh, who says she used her pieces as centerpieces at her own wedding.

At the After-Party
If your afterparty attendees have a certain sense of humor (sorry, you probably won't want to involve Grandma), stock the tallboy tables with decks from the Chicago-made Cards Against Humanity game to have everyone end the night in stitches (just make sure you still have your hankies from the ceremony handy for those tears of laughter).

Post-Wedding Brunch and Event
Keep the funny going by ending your wedding weekend with a group outing to one of the city's iconic comedy clubs. Thank your wedding party and close friends or family for their support by treating them to a matinee or evening show at Second City or The Laugh Factory, both of which offer group rates. Before or after is the perfect time for brunch to catch up on all the fun from the night!
