Lily Collins at the Saint Laurent show at Hollywood Palladium: While a smokey eye often outshines the rest of the look, you can make it feel a little less rock 'n roll and a more ladylike by playing up the lashes. Lily Collins went for a classic smokey look with shades of dark gray on her top lid and directly under her lower lash line, and then played up the lashes with plenty of mascara (if your lashes aren't long enough to show against a dark shadow, use falsies). A heavy wash of coral blush in the hollows of her cheeks warm up the complexion in an edgy way and light pink glossy lips are a sweet finish. All in all, the perfect— ahem— marriage of hard and soft techniques.
Kerry Washington at the NAACP Image Awards: Metallics aren't going anywhere any time soon (in beauty or fashion!), so take a cue from Kerry Washington and add some shine to your big day. A gold eyeshadow all over your lids, and under the lower lash line, makes for an elegant evening look, and plenty of false lashes make sure that your eyes are the main event. A light-handed contour accentuates the lines of the face (the original purpose of contouring) and a nude lip keeps things from looking too harsh. Make sure you get your brows groomed before the big day as well— perfect brows elevate any look.
Blake Lively at the 2016 amFAR New York Gala: A bride with classic style knows you don't have to reinvent the beauty wheel to look gorgeous on your wedding day. Blake Lively epitomizes classic elegance with glowing skin, a wash of pink on her cheeks and lips, and kohl-rimmed eyes accented with brown eyeshadow and several coats of mascara. Her thick curls cascading to one side are also classically chic, but she makes it modern with two messy braids hiding in the back.
