When a high profile couple gets engaged, the announcement is usually either blasted all over social media or kept completely underwraps leaving everyone playing the "are they or aren't they?" guessing game for months. So imagine our surprise when multi-billionaire News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch and supermodel/actress Jerry Hall announced their engagement in the most nonchalant way possible — an ad in the Births, Marriages, and Deaths page of The Times.
"Mr. Rupert Murdoch, father of Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, James, Grace and Chloe Murdoch, and Miss Jerry Hall, mother of Elizabeth, James, Georgia and Gabriel Jagger, are delighted to announce their engagement," the ad read, according to The Times. Such a traditional announcement is definitely not what we would've expected from one of the most high-profile pairings in the world. A Murdoch family spokesman told Vanity Fair: "They have loved these past months together, are thrilled to be getting married and excited about their future."

Putting engagement announcements in the paper has become a new trend among the Hollywood elite. Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch (who married his wife Sophie Hunter last Valentine's Day) and Olympic diver Tom Daley (who got engaged to his screenwriter boyfriend Dustin Lace Black in October) both announced their new fiancé status in the newspaper as well, making the trend of old school engagement announcements totally back in style.
According to Vanity Fair, Murdoch and Hall where introduced by Murdoch's sisters and niece late last summer. In October, the couple officially became public when they shared a kiss in front of the paparazzi at the Rugby World Cup final in London. Before popping the question, both families spent Christmas together yachting in the Caribbean where most of the couple's 10 children were able to meet one another.
Hall's children — Elizabeth, James, Gerogia, and Gabriel — are all from her first marriage to Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger. In a classic tale of rock-star-meets-supermodel, the two got married in Bali in 1990, and after almost a decade together they split. Murdoch is no stranger to marriage either, he has been previously married and divorced three times, most recently in 2013.
This year's Golden Globes was filled with engagement announcements and wedding details including actress Jaimie Alexander dishing on her upcoming wedding, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley casually walking the red carpet with a diamond ring on that finger, officially announcing her engagement to Jason Statham, and Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga, walking the carpet with gorgeous fiancé Taylor Kinney. We're just two weeks into 2016 and the year is already shaping up to be Hollywoods most wedding-filled year yet!
