If sitting down for hours to pen thank-you notes to 200-plus guests sounds like your own personal hell, join the club. But you can turn a paper purgatory into something easy and maybe even fun. Follow these expert tips.
1. Tackle them ASAP.
We all put off what we simply don't want to do. But, according to Diane Gottsman, national etiquette expert and the founder of The Protocol School of Texas, the time to write your thank-you notes is immediately after your honeymoon.
2. But don't take them on all at once.
Ease into what will surely be a massive time commitment, by penning a few notes each day. "Don't overwhelm yourself," Gottsman says, "but make an effort to consistently send your notes of thanks out until they are all in the mail."

3. Invest in quality stationery.
Don't make the process more painful by scribbling notes on stationery you don't even like to look at. Instead, Gottsman recommends, buy notecards you will be excited to use. "Invest in monogrammed stationery before the wedding so you will be ready to put pen to paper," she suggests.
4. Use a pen that won't hurt your hand.
"Use a pen that feels comfortable in your hand," recommends Gottsman. "Most people prefer a roller ball, in blue or black ink." And though it might look good, "steer clear from the fancy fountain pen your grandfather gave you as it may skip, smear or bleed on to your paper," Gottsman says.
5. Sign off as a team.
Split the list with your spouse, Gottsman says, "and don't worry about your husband's or wife's sketchy handwriting. Do your best, because the receiver will welcome your labors." When you sign your names, save time and leave off your new last name. "Your grandmother knows who you are," Gottsman says.
6. Make the experience fun.
Writing thank-you notes can be as fun of an experience as you make it. "Put on a pot of tea, open a bottle of wine, play your favorite Netflix or background music and sit down and start to write," says Gottsman.
