Engagement Photo Style for Your Groom

Engagement photos can be used for save the dates, bridal shower decorations, and wedding displays, so you want them to look amazing. And while you may have been planning your outfits for weeks, you can't forget about the groom! We connected with Danielle Darah, a senior stylist and custom specialist at Trunk Club, for tips on how to get the perfect engagement shoot look.

Pick the essentials items.
When in doubt about what to look for, start with six essential items: a v-neck sweater, crisp white shirt, brown shoes and brown belt, dark jeans and a navy blazer. These quality basics will give your guy an effortlessly classic and put together look.

Size matters.
It's imperative that clothes are tailored to fit correctly, even the most expensive outfit wont look good otherwise. If your fiancé isn't sure what size to buy or what needs to be taken in, a trip to Trunk Club is helpful so a professional can do the measuring and advise on styles and brands to fit his build. If you want to take it a step further, milestone events are the perfect opportunity to invest in a custom piece. "For engagement shoots, I recommend a custom sport coat since it's tough to find the perfect fit off the rack and it can be worn again and again" says Danielle.

Consider the setting of the shoot.
If your engagement pictures are in a formal location, your guy may need a tie or pocket square for his blazer. For a more casual look, add in a v-neck sweater or a knitted tie. And don't forget the weather! If you're freezing in the pictures, it will show! For an outdoor shoot in the city, Danielle recommends a navy or camel topcoat with a nice scarf from Eton, Quinn or Polo.

It takes two.
It's important to coordinate outfits by style, not color, unless it's something subtle such as a pink dress with a pink pocket square for your guy. "When I dress a man for his engagement shoot, I always find out what the fiancé is wearing," explains Danielle, "if she's wearing jeans and a cream sweater, I'll put him in a flannel sport coat or Barbour jacket, which he can drape over her shoulders for a few shots. If she's a Valentino girl, I'll put him in a Dormeuil custom suit." If you're stuck on what you want to wear, fear not - Trunk Club recently launched a styling service for women.

Enjoy the moment!
Being engaged is a special, once in a lifetime experience, so be sure to treat it as such! Set aside a Saturday to stop by the Clubhouse in River North (or NYC) and enjoy mimosas from the open bar as a stylist picks out the perfect outfits for you and your fiancé.
