Courteney Cox has called off her engagement to fiancé, and Snow Patrol rocker, Johnny McDaid, after having been engaged for 17 months, Us Weekly reports. The shocking news comes as an unexpected surprise after the famous couple was last spotted together back in August.

The former Friends star first announced her engagement news on Twitter after rumors swirled for weeks about McDaid having possibly popped the question. The adorable selfie shows Cox next to her new fiancé, McDaid, with a rumor-clearing-up caption, "I'm engaged to him!" Further proving the reports were true, McDaid also took to his Twitter account to post the same snapshot with the caption, "I'm engaged to her!"

The Cougar Town actress gushed about her then fiancé of 10 months to People, revealing, "He's a very sensitive soul," adding that she knew the Snow Patrol frontman was the one "when I knew that this was just who he is, that he was just a beautiful, sensitive, loving person with a wonderful family, and beautiful set of friends. Then I was like, "This is for real!" McDaid, a native Irishman, also gushed about his love for his new fiancé adding, "I just want to be with this woman for the rest of my life. That is all that matters."

Back in July of last year, the duo took a trip to McDaid's hometown of Derry, Ireland to explore possible wedding locations after having only been engaged for one month! The couple was rumored to have been browsing Ireland's Castle Leslie, the celebrated estate venue of Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills nuptials, and the Ramada Da Vinci Hotel, located in view of McDaid's hometown.

It looks like Cox is taking some time before she joins the married gals club, unlike former Friends bestie, Jennifer Aniston, who married longtime beau, Justin Theroux, in a surprise ceremony in August featuring Courteney Cox as her maid of honor. Cox was also rumored to be the last guest to leave the wedding having been partying with her new-bride BFF, Aniston, until the early morning hours.

Cox's former flame, David Arquette, also tied-the-knot to his love of four years, Christina McLarty, in an intimate Los Angeles ceremony back in April. The couple's 11-month-old son, Charlie West, attended the stunning nuptials, alongside Arquette's two basset hounds, and daughter, Coco, whom he had during his first marriage to Courteney Cox.
