Sometimes the dream destination just isn't in the cards when it comes time to plan a honeymoon. But, as our experts advice, that doesn't mean you should forgo the time together as a couple.

If we're being honest, dreaming of fabulous honeymoon destinations is one of our favorite parts about planning a wedding. But for most of us, the resorts where the hotel suite is a tree house-like structure suspended over crystal blue Pacific waters are reserved for daydreams. Whether you're facing budget constraints or a lack of time off work, you can still find a way to relax together as a couple. And just because you have to make peace with not having 24-hour butler service or a private chef doesn't mean you can't have a honeymoon you'll always remember fondly.

The most important aspect of a honeymoon, and reason we strongly encourage them, is the downtime together as a couple. Yes, limitless cocktails and ocean views are nice, but your top priority should be spending a few days decompressing from the stress and excitement that surrounded the wedding.

Discuss what is within your realm of possibility and go from there. If you only have the weekend of the wedding, make the most of it with a cellphone-free day exploring the city where you tied the knot and cap it off with a romantic dinner. Consider an overnight staycation where you sleep in, order room service and go for a long hike. Or check into a day spa and spoil yourselves with a couple's massage and champagne brunch.

Once you start brainstorming, you'll realize how many romantic options are right at your fingertips, and within no time you'll have a file for future date nights.
