Jen Glantz is a "Professional Bridesmaid" and the founder of Bridesmaid for Hire. She's the author of All My Friends Are Engaged and frequently wears old bridesmaid dresses to the grocery store and on first dates. For her Brides.com column, Jen is here to give some expert advice to her fellow 'maids!

So you're decent with a curling iron and have enough make-up to open up your own little mini pop-up Sephora. But the bride wants her bridesmaids to get their hair and makeup done together on the wedding day, at a whopping $175 each. What do you do if you know you're handy with the brush and curling iron and your wallet would be grateful to hold on to the cash?

I respect any bride who takes the time and the effort to find a group of hair and makeup professionals to swing by and help the bridesmaids get glammed up on the wedding day. Even if that comes at an out of pocket expense for the bridesmaids, it's worth it. Especially because last time I used a curling iron, a chunk of my ear fried off onto the sink. When I tried to do my own makeup, I drew on lips, that I thought looked like Kylie Jenners' but actually looked more like Ronald McDonald.

But, for someone who knows how to maintain their own frizz and brush on a face of makeup themselves, it's worth holding on to the nearly-$200 you'd spend to have someone else do it. The first thing you should do, is•chat with the bride. Tell her you appreciate her finding someone, but you believe you can do your own hair and makeup yourself. Tell the bride if there's a certain look she'd like the bridesmaids to have, you're happy to do that look. Make her feel even better by doing a practice run of your hair and makeup before the wedding and sending her those photos. It's likely if you're close enough to be in her wedding party, she's already well aware of your beauty know-how.
