As 2015 comes to a close, we can all agree that this was an amazing year for music. We danced with our girls to Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," witnessed dozens of first dances to Ed Sheeran's wildly popular "Thinking Out Loud," and broke it down on the dance floor to The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face," — all acts that dominated the airwaves and killed it in the billboard charts. However, every year there are always a few of our favorite or under-the-radar artists who didn't quite make the cut for this year's 2016 Grammy Nominations, but made major spins in the wedding-sphere. Here, we rounded up our favorite songs of the year that didn't claim a prized spot to compete for the gilded trophy, but have our vote for a spot on your wedding playlist — starting from getting ready with your 'maids to the final wedding send-off.
For the Morning of the Big Day
For the morning of your wedding, we suggest singing along to Carly Rae Jepson's "I Really Like You," a standout hit from her critically acclaimed album Emotions, that didn't quite gain enough traction for a coveted spot on the Grammy noms. Plus, who can forget one of this year's most viral singles, "Four Five Seconds" by Rihanna, Kanye, and Paul McCartney? Other favorites include Demi Lovato's "Cool For The Summer" and Selena Gomez's "Me & The Rhythm," for brides who want to dance out their pre-wedding jitters as they get ready to say their "I dos."
For Your Ceremony
Looking for something romantic to walk down the aisle to? We suggest Youth Lagoon's beautifully moving piano ballad "Doll's Estate" that's sure to give you (and your guests) butterflies as you make your way down the aisle. After exchanging your vows and sealing your first kiss as an officially married couple, we recommend making your sweet ceremony exit with partner in hand, walking out to the booming beat of Jr Jr's "Gone," from the band's self-titled album released earlier this year.
For Your First Dance
For many couples, choosing the first dance song is either the easiest or most difficult part of the planning process. If you look outside of the Grammy-nominated list of contenders, there are still dozens of standout ballads and heartwarming singles that you can share your first dance to. Imagine hearing Beach House's dreamy, synth-laden single "PPP," that's dripping with beautifully poetic lyrics like "Someone once told me, in love, that you must, place all you're given, in infinite trust." Another wedding-favorite among couples is the super-romantic acoustic single, "Wasn't Expecting That" a runaway viral hit by Jamie Lawson, that also boasts a 7-million view music video that will bring tears to your eyes as it chronicles the journey of a couple's love through the ages.
For Dancing with Your Dad
Another pop band missing from the Grammy nods? One Direction's "I Want to Write You a Song," a perfect choice for the father-daughter dance. Our favorite lyrics are sung in the chorus declaring "I want to write you a song, one to make your heart remember me, so any time I'm gone, you can listen to my voice and sing along," making this dance truly bittersweet.
For Busting Moves on the Dance Floor
Now it's time to get the party anthems ready, because when the formal dances are over, your guests will be itching for a good dance floor beat. Although JBieb's massively addicting "What Do You Mean" didn't manage to nab any spots on the nominees list, we're voting it as a wedding favorite for a bass-thumping, pop jam that even the shiest guests won't be able to resist. Add hits like Beyoncé's "7/11" and Spotify's most-streamed song ever, Major Lazer's "Lean On," and you're guaranteed to keep the party going all night.
For Your Grand Exit
Finally, as the evening comes to an end, it's time to light up the sparklers and prepare the confetti bombs. Make your wedding exit truly epic with larger-than-life, heavy-hitting songs like Chvrches' "Never Ending Circles" and Borns' "Electric Love." With these songs, we guarantee your wedding exit will be one of your most unforgettable moments of your big day.
