Details surrounding Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's Palm Beach wedding continue to pour out, mostly via the couple's own personal Instagram snapshots. And now, designer Zuhair Murad is spilling all the details involved in the making of the bride's showstopping dress.
The Modern Family star announced her love for the Beirut-born designer long before tying the knot. Frequently seen wearing Murad's gorgeous gowns on the red carpet, Vergara chose the lucky designer to dress her for her big day with a "custom-made, fairy-tale frock."
The stunning actress made Murad her official dresser for the weekend, even slipping into of the designer's Pre-Fall offerings, a short and sweet, flowy dress, for her rehearsal dinner. Now that's a true fan!
When it came time to walk down the aisle, Murad stuck with Vergara's much-envied style. "She's very much in control of her image. She knows how to dress for her figure, choosing the designs that enhance her hourglass shape and show her marvelous curves," the designer told Vogue.com. The actual construction of the gown took 11 pounds of sequins, 6.6 pounds of pearls, 350 crystals, and 1,657 total hours of labor, Vogue.com reports. The Baroque-style embroidered overskirt, which was "inspired by the frescoes of European, especially Roman, churches," perfectly complimented Vergara's blushing bridal look. Murad "wanted to see [Vergara's] beautiful curves," further commenting on the removable outskirt adding, "We wanted something very spectacular and grandiose...there is the removable outskirt so later on she can remove the ball gown skirt."
Collaborating with Vergara to make the perfect dress was much like a long distance relationship, the couture designer told Vogue.com, "We [didn't] have an occasion to meet because of our busy schedules, so we worked very closely on a daily basis for the realization of the gown, from the early stages, like the sketches, to embroidery samples, the fitting-everything was done in collaboration with both my team and her team." He continued with, "I know very well her style, and so I wanted something very special, very sexy, and at the same time very classic, because it's a wedding gown."
Not only was Vergara's breathtaking bridal gown put on display in front of 400 guests at The Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida, but it was constructed on two different continents! Both of Murad's Paris, and Beirut, ateliers pitched in when it came down to completing the fairy-tale gown. "[It] was a huge effort," said Murad, "but she deserves it." We couldn't agree more!
