A Romantic Vineyard Wedding at Virginia's Pippin Hill Farm

Real Weddings

When Chad proposed to Ashleigh during a sunset sailboat cruise in Aruba after four years of dating, he unsuspectingly set the scene for their Virginia wedding, too. "He had my favorite pink champagne imported to celebrate," Ashleigh remembers. When the University of Virginia alums started looking for wedding venues, their love of wine led them toward Charlottesville's vineyards, and, from there, to Pippin Hill Farm. "It's the most breathtaking of them all — not to mention the food and wine are spectacular!" says the bride.

They embraced a romantic blush pink color scheme, tying in a travel theme as a nod to the couple's love of exploring the globe. Ashleigh took on a few DIY projects to personalize the celebration, but kept the décor refined and simple to let the beauty of the vineyard shine through. The travel theme first emerged in the invitations, with a map of the local area pointing out the wedding-weekend highlights.

Ashleigh's blush Martina Liana dress jumped out at her the second she walked into the bridal salon. "I knew I wanted something different, and this felt like my personality in a dress!" she says of the silk organza and floral beading. She added soft cap sleeves to the neckline to wear during the ceremony, and chose blush peep-toe pumps by Badgley Mischka.

Bridesmaids wore petal pink Bill Levkoff gowns, choosing a few different necklines for a more personal feel. The maid and matron of honor added sparkling belts to their waistbands.

The flower girl stole the show in an oversized tulle tutu, with a pink rose flower crown in her hair.

With such a stunning view, the ceremony didn't need much in the way of additional decorations. Rows of white chairs flanked a pergola that was simply accented with roses, lilies, and greenery. Ashleigh and Chad wrote their own vows, sharing a few inside jokes and lyrics to a favorite song.

After the couple's first kiss, the wedding party headed back up the aisle with the flower girl in tow. "She had dumped all her petals at the very end of the aisle, and thought that she had to pick them up when she was done!" laughs the bride.

The reception took place inside Pippin Hill Farm's gorgeous gray barn, which the couple dressed up with two wreaths of blooms and their initials hung form the front doors.

Chad and Ashleigh's dog, Joaquin Phoenix, wore an adorable tuxedo custom-tailored by the groom's mom. At the reception, guests sipped on two signature cocktails, the Princess Bride (rosé, vermouth, elderflower, and soda) or the Wakakakaka (a twist on a Dark and Stormy, with vanilla rum and spearmint).

Tables were named after places Chad and Ashleigh have visited together, so each escort card was a plane ticket to that destination. Centerpieces combined blush and white roses, hydrangeas, and peonies, surrounded by candles.

After lobster, beef tenderloin, and fried green tomatoes, guests enjoyed hummingbird cake with salted caramel and cream cheese frosting (and late-night mini Croque Monsieurs, of course!). The silhouette cake topper included the newlyweds' dog, and matched the design on their invitations.

After such a fun celebration, Ashleigh and Chad headed to the Maldives and Thailand for their honeymoon. Says the bride, "We wanted to enjoy every part of our wedding, so we spread the celebrations out over a whole year, starting with an engagement party exactly a year before the wedding. We scheduled events throughout the weekend to really make the most of it."
