What This Bride Did for Her Terminally Ill Father Is Incredibly Moving

Bride Brings Wedding to Terminally Ill Dad

Nothing pulls at our heartstrings more than precious father-daughter moments at weddings. The walk down the aisle? The father-daughter dance? Those are by far some of the sweetest wedding traditions! And when Alabama bride, Sarah Williams, realized that her own dad might not get to experience those milestones, she took matters into her own hands and turned a hospital hallway into a ceremony aisle. With Williams' father, Joseph, being treated for a terminal heart condition at a local hospital, the bride and groom simply brought the wedding to him.

Throughout his long battle with congestive heart failure, all this dad cared about was making it down the aisle for his daughter's wedding. "Mr. Williams had been here for a little while and was critically ill," coronary care unit nurse, Kelly Karell, shared with ABC's WKRN. "Every time we went on a trip to X-ray or CT, he kept saying, 'How am I going to get to my daughter's wedding?' He was disappointed that he might miss it." But this bride wasn't about to let that happen! Last month, Williams surprised her pop with an impromptu ceremony, complete with all the trimmings — bridesmaids, bouquets, and even a wedding cake! "You look beautiful," the beaming dad said when his daughter entered his hospital room wearing her blush-hued wedding dress. And with not a dry eye in the room, Williams finally got his wish of seeing his daughter say "I do," as the hospital's pastor officiated a 'Blessing of Marriage' for the now-newlyweds right then and there!

Like any wedding, the family celebrated afterwards with dinner and a classic three-tiered wedding cake, courtesy of the nursing staff. "We wanted her to remember her father seeing her get married," a CCU nurse explained. "And we wanted to do what we could to make it special for her." And, thankfully, just in time, as the bride's father sadly passed away just a week after the sweet ceremony.

This bride probably never dreamt of saying her "I do's" in a hospital room, but she did dream of having her dad be there. And that just goes to show that it doesn't really matter where you wed. Whether it's in the swanky Plaza hotel, a rustic barn of Pinterest dreams, or even in a hospital, it's only who's there beside you that truly matters.
