Wounded Veteran Makes His Service Dog the Best Man at His Wedding

We're already obsessed with the trend of couples involving their pets in their weddings — we just can't get enough of a furry four-legged ring bearer! But one groom took the idea even further by promoting his pooch to best man for his own big day.

But this wasn't just any dog — U.S. Army veteran Justin Lansford made sure his service dog Gabe was right by his side when he said "I do" to his bride, Carol Balmes, over the weekend in Largo, Florida, USA Today reports.

Lansford was injured in 2012 while he was serving in Afghanistan when his truck hit an IED. When he returned to the United States, he was paired with Gabe, a golden retriever who had recently graduated from the Warrior Canine Connection, an organization that pairs wounded veterans with service dogs.

So, on Saturday, Lansford's trusted companion, outfitted in a very dapper formal military ensemble, stood by him throughout the ceremony as he wed his longtime girlfriend. Turns out that Gabe was one of the easiest bridal party members the photographer has ever snaped before! "[Gabe] was easy, quite frankly, a lot easier than we typically see with groomsmen at most weddings," said photographer Brad Hall.

The photographer also revealed that Lansford's prosthetic leg didn't slow him down from his groom duties in the least. "He out-danced half of the guests at the reception," Hall said.

And we bet Gabe, while he might not have as good of dance moves, was right by his owner's side the whole night!
