Honesty is always the best policy, but apparently the rules get thrown out the window when some people can't (or just don't want to) attend a wedding. Um, rude! Like it or not, there's always that one guest that either doesn't RSVP at all or feeds you the biggest load of crap as to why they can't come and you're simply left in awe of their lies. We asked a bunch of folks to share the worst wedding guest excuses they've ever heard with us, and we swear you have to read 'em to believe 'em — they're that bad!

"My wife's aunt said she was unable to attend our wedding due to a bowling tournament she had earlier in the day. We told her to come in her league gear, but I don't think she ended up making it." — Nate

"A month before the wedding, the bride's out of town aunt told her they wouldn't be able to come because her husband, the bride's uncle, had strep throat. Don't you think he would've been better by then? They should have been honest and just said they couldn't make the long trip." — Kristen

"He said, 'Sorry. Thanks for the invite, but I won't be attending your wedding. I've never told you this, however, I've had a crush on you for years and don't really want to celebrate you getting married to another man. Best of luck and wish you much happiness.'" — Nita

"One of our guests RSVP'd with a plus one then didn't show up the day-of. Later on, I found out he had picked up and left town to join a traveling circus and hadn't really told anyone. Definitely unexpected to say the least." — Carrie

"My wife's aunt and uncle were supposed to be at our wedding. Get this though, they forgot to set their alarm clocks and that's the reason they didn't make it! The wedding was at 4pm by the way." — Jason

"One of my mom's friends sent us an email the day before the wedding saying that she couldn't come because now she had to pick up her kids from camp at the same time that it started. Funny she just realized this the day before." — Lane

"My cousin RSVP'd no because he had to stay at home and watch his dog. Mind you, he only lived an hour away and had months to line up a dog sitter." — Jessica
