Nearly a year after they tied the knot in a secret ceremony in France, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt say their marriage is stronger than ever. In a rare joint interview with Tom Brokaw set to air on Monday on the Today show, the couple opened up about their marriage, including an unwavering love and respect for one another, Us Weekly reports.

Pitt got candid about Jolie's decision to undergo a surgery to remove her ovaries this year. "Whatever's got to be done to keep the family together, and keep the family together as long as possible is gonna be done," the actor said. "This was her charge, no question. It's a scary decision. There's many things that can go wrong and go many different directions."

Jolie opted to remove her ovaries after a preventive double mastectomy in 2013. For both surgeries, Jolie said, she felt confident with Pitt beside her. "I knew through the surgeries that [Pitt] was on my side and that this wasn't something where I was going to feel less of a woman, because my husband wasn't going to let that happen," she said.

Jolie and Pitt are set to star in By the Sea. Directed by Jolie, it will be the couple's first time collaborating on screen since Mr. and Mrs. Smith — the hit movie that first sparked romantic rumors between the two.

According to Us Weekly, the movie follows an unhappy couple while they're on vacation in France. And the on-screen romance couldn't be farther from the couple's off-screen marriage. "I'm counting on the audience to know that if it was close to us at all, we could never make this film," Jolie said. "It's because we're actually very, very stable and these aren't our issues."
