This Groom Proposed in the Sweetest Way — With Ice Cream!

Real Weddings

In November 2013, when Jacquelyn and Steven were visiting her parents in Vermont, he took a quick trip to the Ben & Jerry's factory to create a custom pint combining their two favorite flavors (mint chocolate chip for her, chocolate chip cookie dough for him). "He had them print 'Jacque, Marry Me' on the front and 'Chunk full of a lavish, lucky life with love, loyalty, and lust' beneath it," says Jacque. When Steve asked Jacque if she wanted some ice cream, she had no idea what he was about to pull out of the freezer.

The couple spent just under a year planning their Pennsylvania wedding on October 17, 2014, making the most of the season at The Manor House at Prophecy Creek, with a gorgeous red barn and an old sycamore tree adding to the charming fall feel. DIY projects and vibrant colors brought all the details together, and the couple enlisted Asya Photography to capture it all.

Jacque's tulle and lace David Tutera gown was a perfect match for the lace-embellished cathedral-length veil she borrowed from her mother. "My aunts made it for her when she got married," says the bride. Steve complemented her in a classic tuxedo.

Both the bride and groom donned plum-colored Cole Haan footwear and had pops of orange in their flowers. She carried a bouquet of orange roses, astilbe, scabiosa pods, and pheasant feathers, while his boutonniere featured orange hypericum berries.

The groomsmen also wore tuxedos, while Jacque's bridesmaids wore purple one-shoulder gowns by Donna Morgan.

After a traditional church ceremony, guests headed to the reception, where their escort cards were displayed on whitewashed shutters. All the tables were topped with gray linens and berry-hued napkins, the perfect accent to the dramatic and bright centerpieces.

Orange roses, deep red dahlias, ferns, and astilbe overflowed from silver vessels. Jacque hand-painted all of the ombre table numbers.

Some tables featured metal cages, with flowers and pheasant feathers emerging from within. As guests arrived at cocktail hour, the couple served Jacque's favorite candy: Unbearably Hot Red Hot Cinnamon Bears! "Steve ordered 30 pounds of them!" says Jacque.

The couple danced all night before heading to Turks and Caicos for their honeymoon. Says Jacque, "Don't let all the details and decisions make you lose sight of what it's all about. It's hard to hear that something you've dreamed of isn't possible, or that you have to come up with a new idea, but in the end, you'll be married to your best friend!"
