Orlando Honeymoon Tips

Sometimes, being in love makes you feel like a kid again, so it's no surprise that Disney World is one of the most popular honeymoon spots in the country. But, if you want to have your Florida vacation (roller coasters, character photo ops, and all!) without feeling outnumbered and surrounded by small children, you'll have to plan ahead.

When to Go
First off, if you're looking to share the parks with as few children as possible, there's one simple tip to follow: You'll want to consider planning your wedding (and therefore your honeymoon) for a time when kids are in school. Many people find that right after a major holiday — such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and New Year's — is a quiet time to travel, and hotels are more likely to be filled with grown-ups.

Where to Stay
In addition to a variety of hotels in Orlando, the Walt Disney World complex includes a number of hotels that are actually on the grounds. Whether you stay on or off site, you'll want to make your choices carefully, avoiding properties with, say, inner tube-filled lazy rivers and water slides. The Waldorf Astoria, for example, has sophisticated poolside cabanas and a pub-style bar with a very grown-up view of the park's fireworks. In addition, the Four Seasons Orlando may be in the park complex, but they have a sanity-saving adults-only pool that will spare you from teens doing cannonballs and those potentially terror-inducing swim diapers.

Where to Eat
For dining, the most important tip isn't about where to go but about timing. Whatever hour you usually eat dinner at home, you'll want to push that back to later in the evening, when many of the littlest travelers are getting their evening baths and story times and are heading off to bed. Have a cocktail before dinner, and order appetizers in the bar or lounge if you're not used to eating late.
