Live musicians have a way of bringing guests to their feet and inspiring them to dance and sing with abandon, which makes for magical memories. If you want a reception with a rock-concert feel, book one of these choice Houston bands.
AMP'D by Divisi Strings
Divisi Strings is a traditional, sedate string quartet. AMP'D is its alter ego — a contemporary quartet that can play everything the classic quartet plays and then some — for the couple who wants a wedding soundtrack that's a little different. Think instrumental pop, rock, and country music, from Bruno Mars to Muse, set to gloriously intense strings and lights. The AMP'D repertoire list, which you can sample on the Divisi Strings site, grows by the day. It's classic with a rock 'n' roll twist, and we're pretty, um, amped about the Katy Perry, Fun., and Guns 'n' Roses covers! Read real brides' reviews here!
Easy Money Band
All six seasoned musicians in Easy Money Band take turns singing lead on rock, pop, country, and easy-listening songs you know by heart. It makes for an authentic and diverse show that does not disappoint. The band specializes in weddings and has entertained hundreds of crowds at receptions, corporate parties, and Gulf Coast venues like the Kemah Boardwalk since 1988.
Get a little bit of everything (including a lady sax player!) with Password. Formed in 2000, the "electrifying" band serves up the latest hits alongside the nostalgia of eras past (disco!) with a side of smooth jazz, Latin, and country music. Search YouTube to scout Password's demo performances.
A dozen artists comprise Infinite Groove, which is known for a "visually explosive stage show" that combines choreography, costume changes, and audience participation. Expect guests to hit the dance floor early and stay there for hours of non-stop rockin' to a mélange of disco, Motown, jazz, Latin, rock, and country favorites — all customized to your specs. And Infinite Groove has some serious chops: The band has performed nationally and internationally with stars like The Pointer Sisters, The O'Jays, Randy Travis, Linda Eder, and RuPaul.
Eclipse Band & Orchestra
An adaptable six-piece ensemble (that can grow to 10), Eclipse Band & Orchestra packs more than 2,500 performances over four decades and its repertoire includes popular music from the last six decades — plus, ethnic and religious classics. The band keeps current on musical trends while bringing the benefit of experience to the table, enabling the musicians to "successfully orchestrate any function with the right kind of music for any crowd and any age group." Molly and The Ringwalds
An award-winning party band with 15 years of experience playing hundreds of events, the cleverly named group will make your guests feel like they went to a wedding and a concert broke out. The lively Ringwalds dress the part while performing a stable of fun and funky, much-loved 80s music that will, no doubt, stir up some sing-a-longs and air instrumentation while the dance floor erupts. Bonus: The band encourages audience participation, and even welcomes revelers onstage to croon their fave 80s tune (as long as it's on the set list) and become rock stars in their own right! Double bonus: Standard service entails a full PA system, lighting package, and sound engineer.
The Works is a 10-piece band with a rich, "inherently funky" sound that's been honed for more than 10 years of playing for weddings and major corporate clients like Chevron and Exxon. Making good on its name, the band plays a variety musical styles, including top-40, dance, disco, swing, big band, country, romantic (Jason Mraz, anyone?), holiday and religious songs. Expect serious attention to detail, from outfit changes to infectious energy that will give you and your guests gusto.
