See Why This Winery Wedding Venue Was Extra Meaningful

Real Weddings

Hannah and Joseph met thanks to a shared love of basketball; both played at the collegiate level while attending UC Davis and crossed paths for the first time in December 2009 while at one of Hannah's teammate's houses. After getting engaged on December 21, 2012, the pair decided on a vineyard ceremony and reception — after all, the groom is a winemaker at Robert Mondavi Winery!

While the couple lives in Napa, they decided on Wente Vineyards in Livermore, California for it's location tucked into a series of rolling hills, the property's lush greenery, and because the groom is close friends with the venue's head winemaker, Karl Wente. Hannah and Joseph spent two years planning their June 7, 2014 nuptials and worked with Marisa Manna of So Eventful to bring their visions of a rustic and romantic winery wedding to life and asked Clane Gessel Photography to document every incredible moment!

Hannah fell in love with the fourth wedding dress she tried on and ultimately purchased the lace-and-chiffon Hayley Paige gown, but not before her sister and three best friends made the bride-to-be model a few other styles first. "I was very certain I wanted a mermaid style dress going into my appointment," Hannah says. "They insisted I try on another style dress to be sure I explored all options. I tried on a satin ball gown and looked like a cake topper!" The slim style she chose featured a delicate sweetheart neckline and layered skirt. She finished her look with a white-and-green bouquet comprised of peonies, freesia, and sweet peas.

Hannah and her seven bridesmaids chose the attendant's mismatched looks together. "I was hesitant at first to choose different gowns but my bridal party all have different personalities and shapes," the bride says. "I wanted each bridesmaid to feel comfortable in her dress." The result was a mix of neutral-hued floor-length gowns that looked stunning together. The bride's niece served as Hannah and Joe's flower girl and wore a linen dress with lace trim. The bridesmaids and flower girl all carried smaller versions of Hannah's bouquet.

Joe and his groomsmen chose lightweight black tuxedos from Vera Wang. His attendants included one important four-legged friend! The couple's Irish Wolfhound served as the groom's ring bearer. "Anyone who knows my husband knows he would not get married without his dog by his side," Hannah says.

For their outdoor ceremony, the couple brought in their own wooden arbor that was draped with white linen and hanging flowers. Instead of writing their own vows separately, Hannah and Joe worked with their officiant to create a personalized ceremony. To further make the day about them, both the bride and groom's sisters read from "The Art of Marriage."

Guests found their seats on green wine bottles that were arranged in alphabetical order. As a nod to the groom's job at Robert Mondavi Winery and the bride's at Chopin Vodka, the couple used their two company's bottles to hold flowers throughout the space. Reception tables were set up beneath a white tent and were topped with understated arrangements of floating white gardenias. The couple brought in a classic black-and-white checkered dance floor to set the tone for their party atmosphere.

Hannah and Joe snuck away from the party for some alone time during magic hour. Their photographer found the perfect secluded spot on the property to capture incredible portraits.

After an artisanal dinner menu that included eggplant caponata, spicy rocky shrimp, pan-seared salmon, and a house-smoked pork chop, guests enjoyed the couple's three-tiered red velvet wedding cake and treats from a dessert table.

Hannah and Joe, who honeymooned in St. Lucia, advise other couple's to keep organized when planning their day. "It will save you so many headaches," the bride says!
