Alexis Pew and Kevin Kaminski had to meet twice before their relationship began. In February 2011, the pair hit it off at a mutual friend's party, but when Alexis missed a note Kevin had left for her, she assumed she had a great conversation with a nice, handsome guy, but likely wouldn't see him again. A few weeks later, the pair met again and, this time, made sure they left with a plan to see each other again. Nearly three years later, on December 21, 2013, just before the couple was about to head out for an evening at the Assemblies, a Philadelphia white-tie ball, Kevin got down on one knee and asked Alexis to spend her life with him.
The pair decided to wed on March 21, 2015 at the Old Zion Lutheran Church in Philadelphia followed by a reception at The Union League. To pull off their celebration, Alexis and Kevin worked with the Union League's on-site coordinator and planned a formal event that took place on the first day of spring. "The most important thing for me was, despite all the fuss of a wedding, I wanted to feel like me when I walked down the aisle," Alexis says of her requirements for a wedding dress. She chose a strapless A-line gown from Watters, crafted from blush tulle and accented with pleated ruffles. "I always had a feeling I would wear a non-white dress, and when I tried this one on it just felt right."
The bride added a bouquet of anemones, blush garden roses, white ranunculus, and dusty miller to her big day look.
Her bridesmaids wore strapless gray silk chiffon gowns from J.Crew. She completed her look with vintage necklaces borrowed from the bride's paternal grandmother. They each carried an arrangement of white, peach, and blush ranunculus.
Alexis and her father arrived at the ceremony in a vintage car before she and Kevin exchanged traditional Lutheran wedding vows. They kept their decorations simple, only adding clusters of white hydrangeas along the aisle.
As Alexis and Kevin left their ceremony, the groomsmen and ushers all tossed handfuls of rice in celebration. "I had told Kevin that nobody throws rice at weddings anymore because of the old wives' tale about birds. We were going to have guests blow bubbles instead," the bride says. "Before the ceremony, he gave the guys each a handful of rice that they threw as we exited the church. Very sneaky, but it was an awesome surprise."
Once everyone arrived at The Union Hall, guests were treated to an elegant space decorated in shades of champagne, gray, gold, and blush pink. Tables featured a mix of high-and-low arrangements of towering white hydrangeas and small vessels of pink ranunculus. At dinner, everyone enjoyed lobster bisque, braised short ribs, and crab cakes.
For dessert, the couple sliced into a three-tiered wedding cake, which was made up of citrus cake, raspberry jam, and Swiss buttercream frosting.
After sharing their first dance to Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight," Alexis and Kevin invited their guests to join them on the dance floor as their 12-piece band performed.
Following their wedding, the pair spent a month honeymooning in Paris, but not before sharing some advice for future brides and grooms: "Get as much done as early as you can and set a date a few days prior to the wedding to be finished with planning and responsibilities," Alexis suggests. "What's done is done, so don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy the big day."
