You've seen them all over YouTube: Lately, grooms are stepping it up to surprise their brides with epic routines. While taking an elegant twirl around the dance floor is a dream many brides harbor for their big day, a well-choreographed dance requires a talented — and willing — groom. But what is a bride to do when her groom remains clueless about her dream to hit Internet stardom with a hilariously well-choreographed surprise? Our etiquette experts weigh in on the best manner to drop hints for an oblivious fiancé.
Hinting to your groom that you want a surprise dance requires a certain amount of subtlety. First, feel out how comfortable he might be with the notion of a dancing in general. Invite your fiancé to a dance lesson or take him to a salsa club to test the waters, all the while mentioning how much you love an impromptu spin around the dance floor. If your groom appears equally enthusiastic, you might consider dropping more pointed hints.
If you attended a wedding where the groom surprised his bride with hilarious choreographed routine, you can slide it into conversation by complimenting the man's ingenuity to your fiancé. Turning on the television to a favorite movement-related program such as Dancing With The Stars or casually leaving out a brochure for a dance studio can also provide your fiancé with some gentle guidance. Of course, you can also leave your computer open with your favorite viral routine loaded on the screen, or even send them to him for a laugh (and, of course, a subtle nudge). Enlisting the aid of mutual friends and family will also facilitate the process. If you feel comfortable asking your groom's friends to give him a nudge in the right direction, do so; hearing the encouragement from his peers may prompt your hubby to take the metaphorical — and physical — leap.
