Hosting a buffet wedding dinner is a wonderful way to cut costs and offer a variety of guest-pleasing cuisines at your wedding reception, but the option can come with one big drawback: If the entirety of your party chooses to hit the buffet simultaneously, a number of attendees will likely be caught playing the waiting game in an interminable line.
So, if you're set on a buffet-style dinner but don't like the notion of ravenous guests standing in a 100-person line, you're in luck. A family style dinner sets up each table with serving platters full of large portions of each menu item, allowing guests to conveniently serve themselves and decide how much of each dish they desire (it's just like sitting down for dinner at home with your family!). Meanwhile, food stations mimic the feel of a buffet by allowing guests to walk around the reception to see which dishes are being served at which stations, and then pick, choose and sometimes customize what they want to include on their own plates. Both options are fun twists on the traditional buffet-style meal.
Regardless of which style you choose — but especially if you opt for a classic buffet — make sure to serve appetizers to hold off your guests' impending hunger.
