Fun and Creative Alternatives to a Sparkler Exit

Sparkler exits are a beautiful way to send a newlywed couple off into the sunset, but some venues aren't entirely amenable to the idea of open flames. So what substitute can provide brides with equally spectacular visuals without breaking the rules? Our etiquette experts weigh in.

In order to simulate the stunning aesthetic of sparklers, consider utilizing items that are metallic, colorful, and multidimensional. If you crave the flickering light effect of sparklers, try passing flameless candles to each guest to illuminate your departure for a romantic ambiance.

Battery-operated lighted branches offer a similar effect. If you're smitten with the shimmering effect of sparklers, try fashioning metallic pompoms or wands adorned with metallic tinsel for each guest to carry. A traditional toss will also lend wedding pictures a cinematic feel, whether you choose a cascade of rose petals, a veil of confetti, or a shower of biodegradable glitter. Metallic confetti isn't a terrible idea, either.

If you prefer a less messy alternative, bubbles are a wonderful way to lend dimension to your wedding photos without creating any extraneous debris to clean as are the ever-popular string lights. In addition, if your venue is accommodating you may consider releasing luminescent Chinese lanterns as you make your way out of your reception.

No matter what you choose, your wedding exit will be memorable because it's the moment you're embarking on your journey into married life — not because you had a sparkler or not.
