The easiest way to get shampoo-commercial hair in your wedding photos? Boost the shine! Hairstylist Marina Percovic shares her best tips to get your glossiest hair ever.
There's a reason clean hair looks extra shiny: Product buildup is a major cause of hair dullness, says Percovic. The solution? Detox your hair with a clarifying shampoo, like Kenra Professional Clarifying Shampoo ($13, available at Ulta), which uses grapefruit and witch hazel extracts to wash away dirt, oil and product residue.
Dryness is another big reason behind dullness, says Percovic. Battle it with a five to 10 minute hair mask session once a week after you shampoo. (Be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid buildup!) We like It's a 10 Miracle Hair Mask ($23, available at Drugstore.com). In addition, each time you shampoo, try a leave-in conditioner to battle dryness all day long. Percovic loves PHYTO Secret de Nuit ($38, available at Nordstrom).
Take a cold shower.
You may love hot, steamy ones, but your hair doesn't: too much heat can strip shine. If you can manage it, rinse your hair quickly with cold water just before you get out of the shower. This seals the cuticle, which helps increase shine. Speaking of heat, overdoing it with the flatirons and curling irons can dull your hair, too: try to cut back on the heat-styling as much as you can and always use a heat-protecting product.
Add last-minute luminosity.
A week or two before your wedding, see your colorist for a clear glossing treatment to maximize shine. Or DIY it at home! We like Oscar Blandi Clear Shine Glaze ($28, available at Sephora). Then, on your wedding day, finish off your hairstylist with a misting of shine spray or a dab of light serum to add that extra hit of glossiness for your photos. We like L'Oreal EverStyle Smooth and Shine Serum ($6, available at Amazon).
