Are congratulations in order for Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx? The actress was spotted on the streets of New York City flashing a gold band on that all-important hand, leading many tabloids and other interested parties to speculate that she and her rumored beau are engaged.

The former Dawson's Creek star was seen out and about Monday in New York City's Soho neighborhood. Holmes' mini-me, nine-year-old daughter Suri, wasn't with the actress. The actress put the ring-in-question in plain view by holding onto her Le Pain Quotidien coffee cup.

In March, People confirmed that the pair had been spending time together for well over a year, but clarified that it wasn't too serious. "This is not some intense romance," a source with knowledge of the situation said. "Jamie and Katie are friends and have been for a long time. They are two adults who are attractive and single, and so apparently conclusions will be drawn." Adding: "But contrary to those conclusions, they're not about to run off and make some serious commitment."

However, another insider close to the couple dished to People that Holmes had been spotted visiting Foxx "often" at his nearby home and that "they spend hours together" at a time. The magazine said that sources don't expect Holmes to take things to the next level with Foxx, but she is open to another serious relationship one day.

Also in March, Us Weekly published a photo of the rumored couple holding hands and playing footsie. The picture, which was taken in February, offered a rare glimpse into the couple's secret romance. "Jamie is someone she can trust and have fun with," a source said. "She's getting everything from Jamie that she didn't get with Tom." One insider said that Foxx is equally taken with the actress, and that he even refers to her using the term of endearment "my girl" — as in, "My girl is calling."

Holmes has made it clear that she doesn't want to be remembered for her 2012 divorce from Tom Cruise, telling People in October. "I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am."
