Josh Elliott and Liz Cho's stunning, intimate wedding in Montecito, California, last weekend was notable not just for its gorgeous private estate setting. The affair was also squarely focused on uniting their families. Both Elliott, an NBC Sports anchor, and Cho, ABC News's New York City station anchor, have daughters from previous marriages, and they made a concerted effort to include them in every aspect of the day.

"Being that it's the second marriage for both of us, it's really a time to take stock in what matters most," Elliott told People. "We're believers in the modern family," he added, noting that both his and Cho's ex-spouses are actively involved in merging the families. "Sarina's mom and Louisa's dad are a big part of everything."

The girls' role in the wedding carried a lot of importance for Elliott in particular — his mother passed away unexpectedly three weeks before the big day. As a result, he had them honor her during the ceremony. "The girls carried flowers and placed them on an empty chair," he said. "Those were the tears. I loved seeing our two girls walk down the aisle."

The meaning of the big day was not lost on Sarina (Elliott's daughter) and Louisa (Cho's daughter). "Once during the ceremony, I looked over at the girls smiling and in that moment, it was like it was their day. They're real sisters now. It was a party for two," he said.

Cho echoed her husband's excitement about the girls now having a sister. "With them both being only children, now they have a true significant other in their life and it's been incredible," she said. "I overheard them talking after the wedding and it was the first time I heard Sarina say stepmom!"
