A bachelorette bash is a wonderful excuse for the bride (and her bridal party) to take a break from the stress of wedding planning and revel in the excitement of the upcoming nuptials. However, sharing the experience of a rowdy soirée with her mother and soon-to-be mother-in-law may cause the bride anxiety. Our etiquette experts weigh in on how to throw a party that pleases both the bride and her family — without taking away from the joy of the festivities.

Unlike the bridal shower, engagement party, or rehearsal dinner, the bachelorette party comes with certain expectations of a wild time. So it's pretty understandable that a bride might not want her mother or future in-laws to witness whatever debauchery lies in store for her and her entourage. To appease the mother of the bride, the mother of the groom, and the bride herself, you may consider hosting a bachelorette party in two parts. The first interval of the bachelorette party can cater to the more subdued sensibilities of the mother of the bride and mother of the groom, including a champagne toast, a spa excursion, or an elegant dinner with the bridal party.

After the more civilized segment of the bachelorette party has concluded, the bride and her bridesmaids can continue on to whatever decadent pursuits they wish without offending the bride's family, whether it's the entertainment of a male stripper or a trip to the local dive bar for margaritas and comfort food. Neither the bride nor her family will feel deprived of the bachelorette experience, and each party will leave the affair buzzing with joy.
