Rebecca Beaumont and Ross McMahon first "met" while they were over 600 miles apart — Rebecca was spending Christmas day with her family in Sydney, Australia while Ross, a cardiologist, was on-call at a hospital in Melbourne when they were fatefully matched on an online dating site. "I showed my family Ross's photo," the bride remembers. "Little did they know that they were looking at a photo of their future family member!"
The pair met in person after a series of five hour long phone calls and instantly clicked. The proposal came as a surprise to them both when Ross popped the question on April 24, 2013 in Las Vegas while on vacation. "I had been thinking about getting engaged for a while but wasn't sure how," Ross recalls. "I raced out of the hotel room, bought a ring, a new suit, booked a restaurant and phoned Rebecca's father in Australia to get his blessing." When he got down on one knee, Rebecca said yes. They returned to Las Vegas on October 2, 2014 with 93 guests in tow for a classic Vegas wedding at the Bellagio planned by Andrea Eppolito Events. "The planning process was initially a nightmare," Rebecca says. "We had decided on Las Vegas as the destination when we got engaged because we thought it would be so cool to have all of our family and friends in this fun city that never sleeps." But because of the time difference between Nevada and the couple's home in Australia, they quickly realized planning couldn't happen on their own. They brought in Andrea Eppolito to coordinate the event in the timeless shades of ivory and gold.
It didn't take long for Rebecca to find her wedding dress. In fact, she chose the first gown she had ever tried on, a strapless ball gown designed by Vera Wang. She donned a matching veil and cobalt-hued Manolo Blahnik satin pumps as her "something blue."
The bride asked two of her sisters and her future sister-in-law to be her bridesmaids. Since the four women live across the world, Rebecca asked them to choose a dress in a bold color that they felt comfortable in. Her youngest sister and three of Ross's nieces served as flower girls and looked adorable in princess-inspired ivory dresses.
Their ceremony took place at the base of a sprawling double staircase and they wed in front of a wrought iron gate. Gold chiavari chairs and a rose petal-strewn aisle brought their vision of "classy Vegas" to life.
Rebecca's father walked her down the aisle before she and Ross exchanged vows they wrote themselves. As a nod to Ross's Irish heritage, the couple included a Celtic tradition called "handfasting" in their ceremony. The bride and groom have their hands tied together while a special blessing is read.
The couple wanted their reception to be welcoming, so they set up long tables on an outdoor patio that left an inviting square for dancing. Votive candles and small arrangements of roses in mercury glass vases lined each table.
Rebecca and Ross sliced into a chocolate cake with cream filling before dancing to traditional Irish music and the Australian classic "I Came from a Land Down Under."
